What can be done to reduce file size (besides compacting)?  Do any of the following affect file sizes?

1) Putting text in grid vs in document pane

2) Splitting text into many items vs few (eg the same text split into 10 items vs 1)

3) The number of tags or tag assignments, hyperlinks etc?

I believe putting images in doc panes does not affect file size as long as you have the option checked to not store images in the database.

I'm guessing the above effects are minimal and it's the gross amount of data being stored, no matter how it's organized.

Hi Wayne,

How big are your IQBases ? Size is rarely an issue...

The Doc pane takes a bit more space than grid item (because both plain text and rich text versions are stored), but this isn't significant in practice. Plus a single Doc page can be the equivalent of many items. If you've clipped large pages, this can add up. It is possible to show large items and act on these. If you want more info, do not hesitate to ask

My main file is going will be appx 200 mb, with 200,000+ items.

To re-state what I asked above,  if I have the same 1,000 words of text does it make any difference in file size if I put those words:

1) All in 1 Doc pane vs 20% each in 5 different panes

2) All in 1 Doc pane vs all in one grid item

3) All in 1 grid item vs 20% each in 5 different items

In other words, does the way you split up and store info have any impact on file size?  Does the text in a pane take up more space than the same text in a grid?  Does text split up into many items take up more space than the same text put into only a few items.

Any difference will be negligible
(Apart from the above comment w.r.t. Doc pane taking twice the storage size of grid items)

If you have a large content, you can put it in the Doc pane and then do Menu > File > New HTML or MHT file. This removes the rich text content from the database (saved in the file) and leaves only the plain text version

With that said, 200MB is not a problem at all

How do I ?
