Upgrade list says: "New: Items: Multiple improvements to file indexing, including support for URLs to PDF files"

I upgraded and don't see anything different.  I can't find anything in the user manual.  Is there some reference that explains what these are?

I was really hoping it was going to be the ability to link to specific pages inside a PDF.  That would be a game-changer for me (I know it's a long shot).

Thanks, Wayne

Hi Wayne,

Doc needs updating indeed. Basically, you can now index both local and web pdf files. Item > Index linked file. The content can then be searched for, stored in field 18, FileText (i.e. in Live-Search)

As to linking to specific pages, that is already possible... add #page=xx at the end of the hyperlink. Works for Adobe, Chrome and Edge and perhaps others too. For Edge, ensure that the flag to use the new PDF reader is not enabled

Thanks.  I tried the #page method several years ago but couldn't get it to work - will try again.

Update: Before I spend more time trying to get this work, are you saying that something has changed that makes this method work now, when it didn't work before?

We had a thread about this years ago and determined the added coded method didn't work.  I tried for a long time with it and was never able to get it to work.

I found the old thread from February, 2020 = https://infoqubeim.com/drupal5/index.php/node/4855

It's complicated but it was noted that linking to local files (what I need) is different from linking to online pdf's.  Someone also suggested you can do it through Zotero.

And here's an earlier thread on the same topic: https://infoqubeim.com/drupal5/node/4125.  There was talk of improving universal links in an upcoming update.  Did that ever happen?

Again, I'm only asking whether something has changed that makes it worth delving into again.  I spent a lot of time on this previously and got nowhere.  I think I am going to try Zotero, though.

Thanks, Wayne

I use Bluebeam Revu for all my pdf editing so that's where i want the files to open.  It's probably not going to help me me to have them open in a simple viewer that can't do editing.  But I appreciate the option to consider and I'll check it out.

The system I'm using isn't that bad, it just makes the process two step:

1) Link in InfoQube to PDF file.  Link includes target page number.

2) PDF opens in Revu, where I have to manually input the page number to get to the target.

Obviously, not as good as linking directly to the target.

Even if I got MS Edge to work, it looks like I'd have to have double links for everything (one to Edge for viewing only, one to Revu for editing).

How do I ?
