Hi,
D Bartlett here on the blog forum (hopefully this does show up) for the first time.  ECCO user since it's beginnings in the 1990's, discovered IQ this summer and switched to it from ECCO totally and completely this past Aug.  Great program, I'm sure I'll be continually learning more about it's power and possibilities for a long time yet, BUT - MY BIGGEST CHALLENGE IS PRINTING.  I am accustomed to sending a file to print, from within whatever program, and it prints - it isn't that straightfoward for me in IQ.

This morning for instance, trying to print a screen-width hoisted-item grid-c/w-gantt-chart on 1 landscape-oriented legal-size page . . . with WYSIWYG the best I could ever achieve was a 2-page print out (which presentation-wise did not work for me), I could not figure out a way to instruct the print program to output to one single page . . . I finally had to use SnagIt to take a snapshot of the screen and print that instead.

So The Need To Print Virtually Always Stops Me Dead In My Ouptut Tracks.  I've studied all the related on-line documentation I can find and nothing has made the printing process any easier for me.  Does anybody have any big picture tips/tricks/hints/clues/pointers for me???

thanks much
D Bartlett

I'm exactly sure what you want your output to look like. But I use a program called Fineprint, http://www.fineprint.com/, it will send the IQ output to its Fineprint driver. From there you can print two to a page or four or eight for that matter. It is great for printing out something on a web site, then being able to delete all of the wasted pages at the end of the job, saves lots of paper.

Hi Al,  I had a look at fineprint tonight and although it will fit the 2 pages onto 1 page it doesn't join the 2 contiguously such that the printed output could be considered a presentation-quality replication of the screen layout.  For now I will continue using SnagIt screen capture and print from that.  But thanks Al.

D Bartlett,  Can't you set reduce to a single page from within your printer  properties?

Hi Jan,
I attempted to print to both a printer and then to pdf.  Actuated all the normal print control settings from within both thinking that might be the source of the solution, but ultimately, the WYSIWYG interface would only reduce to 2 pages and thats what printed in both instances.  BUT, based on your query I will make the attempt one more time, paying more attention to possible printer override settings, and post the result.
thanks

Doug, I just looked @ my own printer settings. Depending on printer driver, it might be under advanced or preferences, etc. You may have to poke around. In my case under
print > preferences > features I found "print actual size" & "scale to paper size"  amongst other features.

Jan, with printer settings I can force two pages (or more) onto one page, no problem, but that doesn't solve my problem.  My problem is that I need WYSIWYG to setup/layout the print job onto one page, so the the grid c/w gantt chart is contiguous.  But WYSIWYG will only reduce the print job to a two page setup/layout and that is what I get when I print, and although I can force those two pages onto one page, it is not contiguous.  I've attempted to load a screen-capture image of the WYSIWYG two-page layout, hopefully that helps illustrate my problem.  (hopefully I don't blow up Pierre's web site) thanks again, Doug.

Doug, If I understand you want grid + gantt to be one landscape page w gantt following chart.  WYSIWYG is only giving you 2 pages as you've illustrated & when you print to one page Gantt is probably under grid or something like that.  IMHO I don't know  how anyone is going to read grid + Gantt side by side if they are reduced to a single plane. Maybe cut / paste the two pages together & photocopy or something like that would work. OTOH you could print to one of those very wide carriage printers (Kinko's) so it's all readable & on one page. Beyond that, I'm outta ideas. Hope you can accomplish what you want.  Also don't know if this for client or some other biz use so quality could /  could not be an issue. Plse let us know how you solve the problem so it can get passed on to the next person in a similar situation.

I've asked the grid supplier to add a Print to fit feature (or at least a Print scale factor). We'll see if and when that happens.

What I can add (it may help in some cases), is to limit set the print date range for the Gantt.

(also, you can try reducing the column widths )
