Fields have a (optional) tree view... Why not grids ? :)
I think it could be handy for at least some of us...

That would be quite handy. So I'd have something like this--under Daily, I'd put some of my most used/ related grids with the tree view,

Quite possible, is it in Mantis ? Not for a while though. In the meantime, the following upcoming changes will help:
  • Ecco-style multi-folder views
  • User-defined home page

I know I wrote something about "grid hierarchies" a long time ago (more than 2 years), but I couldn't find it. I can add it if you want.

Of course, the new changes sound GREAT !

Changes sound interesting - not sure what exactly they involve but can wait n see  ;-)

An extension of the Tree for Grids idea would be to have it visible in a separate panel - like a file manager.
This is possibly covered by one of the upcoming changes.

I entered an issue in Mantis. For this thread.

[MANTIS : 939 (Tree view of grids)]

But the folder views (virtual especially) in grids could actually be -- as you suggest -- the simpler answer or at least part of the remedy. I can't wait to try that !

A related issue (still valid IMO) is

Mantis 150 : An enhanced "Grids" menu/button to open grids more quickly

[quote]There's already a button/menu to see all the grids "button".

It could be enhanced in these ways (some of that stuff has already been mentioned in the forum):

- The "Grids" button/menu could be triggered with a shortcut key
- Grid names could be organized hierarchically in that menu, or, in the mean time, just in a clear **straight** list (the list is not "straight" at the moment). Hierarchical organization of grids *might* become a necessity for users with a lot of Grids.

(Also, eventually : better search as you type. Already possible, but not that sophisticated -- only first letter).

This is in line with other type and search functionalities in IQ, and other apps (like FARR)
