Does anyone (Pierre) know if Pierre is still off making a good living for himself & his real family, on vaca, biking or quietly finishing up 9.25 while we leave him alone?  I'm feeling insecure again ;-)

Comments

Hi Jan,

No need to worry. Yes, I had a number of things to do, some personal (such as paint & organize the house), some to enjoy life (I love cycling, and it has been a great spring so far), and some to pay the bills (consulting work)

But I am as much dedicated to IQ as before. I'm also working in parallel on stabilizing 0.9.25 and on the development of 0.9.26 (0.9.26 focuses on a major UI shift, which users will most certainly apreciate)

Finally, being omnipresent on the forum takes time, time away from development, so I try to limit it and leave the community do its thing.

Thanks Pierre. I'm truly happy to know you have a balanced life, something that escapes many of us until it is too late. I absolutely agree about the forum taking away from actual work & I definitely prefer that you continue your development work rather than chat on the forum. Happy spring to you.

Do you still read everything that is put in the forum? (just not so often?)

If not everything, how do we trigger you that something's really important (like the donationcoder typo, Armando's questions on the html export on that neat sample file he made, etc).  Email/contact form?

Would it be helpful to designate a Moderator for the forum ?
- for the odd occasion that there's spam or minor things to be changed...

Yes I still read just about everything, but focus on reported bugs. I keep feature request / changes in the back of my mind, for future improvements

Cool. [Edited as it was unfinished, maybe out place, and could have been wrongly interpreted. Sorry!]

I'll think about all that and will try to come up with something semi-useful, a solution to "alleviate" this situation of expectation where users seem sometimes left wondering.

[edited-I vented a little too much. Must be more patient...Sorry]

There are quite a few forum questions that haven't been answered, and that could be answered quickly. (Even this thread: moderator, donationcoder typo, and dreaded implied "ETA" question, was not addressed)
Anything in the forum not answered in a timely manner gets lost. And if there are several zillion things in the suggestion section, it will be overwhelming, if not lost.

Actually, Keith, I think you, Armando & Tom have been more forthright than my pollyannaish reply. Something is missing. It may be that we are used to more hand holding & we are all on withdrawal.

Having said that I wen tthru a similar development period with a photography DAM program called IdImager.  Like InfoQube, it was a one man shop but Hert (the Dutch developer who lives outside Amsterdam) found time to develop his extraordinarily complex program & be ever present on the forum.  He has since gotten a financial infusion from Silicon Valley which he richly deserves. He, too, had a young family (not being critical here).  Indeed, his presence provided a sense of security to all the users. Today, his program is probably considered the best -- if not one of the best in the category.

Moreover, I cringe when I read some of the comments, questions on the outline forum & I think -- folks, you don't know what you're missing. It seems like such a great place to spread the msg. I don't belong to the EccoPro list anymore (many years) but, again, it would seem a logical place to pick up interest, users, etc. If InfoQube is going to find it's place in the pantheon of PIMs, I think Pierre & we have to help get the word out, etc.

Having said all that, I still believe that a balance in life is very important so each to their own. Who am I to set priorities for someone else.

Nevertheless, Keith, I agree with you.

Hi Keith, I edited my previous post just before you posted... When I wrote it, I had to leave it unfinished -- was in lunch break at the time. So... Edited it to avoid misunderstanding. Sorry Keith if that left you wondering about the previous content. And sorry Pierre for what appeared as a clumsy comment and now... that abrupt editing.

And so I'll just add a few words. Only a few words...

Keith expressed my own thoughts pretty well. Basically : the name of the game :  frequent and consistent communication, feedback about bugs, roadmap, progress, etc. This is one of the important things that'll keep me going, believing. (Of course -- should I maybe add -- I did make some pretty big sacrifices for IQ -- "timewise", especially -- and so my expectations are maybe a bit higher than for some other software, or maybe higher than some other users... But that might be my own "problem", I guess.)

Communication is not only important. It's essential for "sane collaborations" that actually work and where everybody feels respected. Yes, as this -- IQ slowly getting to V1 -- is some kind of collaboration where a few enthusiastic users try to help the developer (Pierre) with the development, marketing, etc. of a software. They do it for themselves, yes, of course, but not only...

Thanks, and I hope you know that I'm writing this with complete (as much as I can...) sincerity and integrity !

[Edit : Jan and I posted almost at the same time so I didn't read Jan's reply... Which I'll do now]

And now it's your turn Keith ? :) You're editing your own post !
Doesn't really matter, but I must say it's kind of funny ! as I :

1- edited mine,
2- then saw your post quoting my unedited post,
3- answered your unedited post, and then...
4- you edit yours (as Jan and I "answered") !
We might as well now delete the whole thread !

Should I quote everyone so their comments don't disappear lol

there's been something bothering me for a while and I dont know how to say it, let's see:
Pierre,
what I personally find difficult is not knowing what's going on.
As Jan says "Who am I to set priorities for someone else" - I don't want to ! - but I respectfully suggest that you let us know more often what's going on -
even if it's just to say: "I wont be around this week see you next" - I don't care what you're doing but it is very difficult to Not know whats going on - it leads to insecurity as Jan says.

btw, I agree with Armando's post too (in response to & partially summarizing Keiths post before it was edited) - & I hope you dont mind me quoting it Armando!

Hi folks,

I'm sorry if some of you are feeling some frustration. It is true that IQ dev. progress has ups and downs and I sometimes get overwhelmed with all the activity on this forum. I then tend to go offline for a while.

I'll try to keep good communication with all of you. I very much appreciate the efforts that all of you do.

The published roadmap is still valid (except for dates of course...), so I'm basically working on stabilising 0.9.25 and working on 0.9.26.
