The following are the steps I took to the best of my recollection

I wrote an article draft in HTML pane while docked
I copied this item & pasted creating a new item w identical date in HTML pane
I detached HTML pane, i.e. floating
I updated draft in this manner
I dragged pane back to it's original docked position
the changes I made to draft did not end up in docked HTML pane

Workaround: HTML menu > File > save before re-docking

Can someone confirm this.

I cant reproduce it but also cant understand some of your directions:

I'm not sure what this step exactly involves:
I presume it means an xml copy but not sure and dont understand: with "identical date in HTML pane" ?

Also, did you try refreshing, cause sometimes in the past the html pane has shown content related to the previously focused item (never seen it do it like this but dont use it a huge amount...)

Your presumption is correct, except it should have read "data" not "date"
I didn't try to refresh because I assumed auto save no matter HTML pane's position

My writing process looks like this:
TLI = Title of project (assignment: 300 words on InfoQube)
Child = draft #1 + HTML (write draft in HTML pane) word count = 573
Sibling = copy draft #1 as XML & paste as a new item (draft #2) under same parent. (edit draft #1 in HTML pane), word count = 412
Sibling = copy draft #2 as XML & paste as a new item (draft #3) under same parent. (edit draft #2 in HTML pane), word count = 300

change draft # item to read "final" & submit to publisher
To update drafts I like working in floating HTML pane; just easier for me.
I like doing it this way because I can always see how my article structure has changed

Thanks for your interest

Doh !
I should have guessed that one. (I cant reproduce it then)
it's interesting to hear about how you work btw

Attaching or detaching a pane should not have any effect. Is this reproducible ?
