I opened an image file from the HTML pane
I then saved the HTML pane contents

I want to delete the image now, but -
  • I am unable to - I can select it but not delete it
  • Browse mode is always on - I can't get out of it
  • I cannot edit in Blocknote ( I presume because it's not MHT & Browse mode always on )
  • I dont have word so I cant try that
Any tips?

What you could do is click on "Create a new HTML document" icon. This will offer you 4 different options.

Select the : "Convert the current MHT file to an HTML file".

Then you'll be able to edit your document.

I wonder if that's in the manual or not. I'll think of adding it if not.

dont add anything to the manual, yet  :-)

First (in case - just to be fully clear) - it's *not* MHT - the title is HTML (ID=__) : (XYZ.png)

I know that whole area there UI-wise is kind of quirky, so I click on
File >New HTML document
the image simply disappears - that's it. No dialog shows.

That's fine for me - has the desired effect - but may not be for others i.e. it could lead to difficulty in finding or even loss of data.
It's reproducible here so unless anyone objects I'll report it later.

Oh... I see . I thought it was MHT.

But one question, didn't you at least see this dialog :

EDIT : sorry... You clearly stated you didn't see any dialog. I guess that since it's not an embedded document, but just a link to the item, it'S normal that it just disappears. It doesn't involve any data loss per se, but just the loss of a link. That said, maybe should the dialog appear nevertheless.

EDIT2 : Note that the link to your image could've just been erased in the properties pane. It appears under ItemHTMLFile. The image should disappear from the HTMLpane on item switching back and forth.

OK - I've hardly used the save-this-file-in-HTML-pane option and I actually thought it was saved locally, I mean not as a link but saved in the files folder - actually, to be honest I didnt think about it at all.
But, you know the way, when you click "save" - you just think, that's it now - it's saved - or at least that's what I did anyways
To be fair a lot of users might think that - I can be a good guage of the lowest common denominator though at times ;-)

That could be pointed out at some stage in the process - that it's only a link (but I'm not sure how? maybe when you open a file)
I know the whole area (HTML/MHT conversion etc) needs a bit of work on the GUI (at some stage) and it's been talked about before (so I'm not complaining, just saying)

Geez Tom, If you are lowest common denominator then I am definitely a protein. I, too, have never used the HTML save function assuming as you did.

Well Jan :) I have the honour of being asked if I wanted a thread I started removed (because the query involved was really really really 'Doh!'). I think they thought I'd be embarrassed about it. In retrospect I should have just left it there (I didnt really care at the time) now I cant even remember what it was about....

Very  nice & very considerate.
I guess in my case it would be too much trouble to cull all of my 'Doh' posts & delete 2/3 (maybe 3/4) of them.
Although I like trying, I'm afraid I'll never get this stuff. :)

I've fixed this. Doing a File >> New when showing an external file, now prompts you.
