In clipping dialog <Win>+C we currently have the ability to send (paste) clipped material to InBox or Current Grid.  This is good
But I would like to suggest the following:

Make InBox a program option default

Create a drop down list (like fields & wikitags) that contains 'current grid' + the names of existing grids
This list would update automatically as new grids are created or deleted.
User would select grid & item would go to both Inbox & selected grid

I'm not sure what you mean by that. You mean that everything goes into the inbox when nothing else is checked ?

(aside #1 : Personally I like the fact that it's a check box beside the other drop down menu -- I don't want everything in my Inbox all the time.)

The "current grid" is an interesting suggetion
Other suggestions are good too IMO.

(Aside #2 :

The problem with "assigning" items to grids is
1- Not everybody has grids with simple sources. IQ as no way of "assigning an item to a grid" if the source is too complex (apart for hoisting). But maybe are there are ways around that.

2- I feel that we're getting closer and closer to the folder metaphor ("items are in grids") and I'm not sure if that's a good thing. Maybe it'll be even harder to get users to understand IQ's different way of working.

Good asides, Armando. My thinking on this is that the user should have the confidence to know that an item will end up SOMEWHERE in the dB in case s/he can't find it in the grid because of filtering reasons.  Personally, I've assigned the In-box function to my "Journal" grid & I filter that for a single day. So even if I clip w/o assigning, it ends up there.

I don't know if you noticed but "current grid" already exists in 9.25a

You're right. I hadn't considered that important little detail but thinking about it now, wouldn't IQ have a properties type setting for each grid that could assign all settings to the item automatically or am I dreaming? I was just thinking about how Zoot does it but I'm not sure if it's relevant.

Yes, this is of primary importance. I think that the journal grid can serve that function well. What I don't like is the name of the grid (Journal) as it doesn't convey well what it does. Terminology is often overlooked, but it usually has big consequences.

IMO the Journal grid should be rebranded : "All Items". Then, the user can use any filter he/she wants on top of that.

One of the definition of the word "Journal" corresponds well to the actual usage, but in general I think people think more of  a record of  personal reflections OR a  record of transactions (as in bookkeeping).

Nope ! I didn't notice! Thanks for telling me. Isn't it greyed out though?
