I created a new item via <CTRL>N
added the item title, entered copy in the data entry area
saved item

After item was saved I realized I needed to add more data

The only option I see to edit is via word, etc.

Comment / Question:

Is this to tell me that I have to buy "Word" to edit in IQ?
If so, I think that's ridiculous
I have Open Office Writer & can save to html but when I do that the edited page does not display

So what other choices do I have? Is this a bug?  Is there any way to imbed / display a .doc or .txt file within an html page? While I'm sure there are advantages to having an html pane vs a MIME viewer / browser combo like in URp, I'm beginning to find this HTML pane a bit daunting for common tasks.

Edited 01/14/09 11:04 am: I see there is an icon for something called blocknote so I d/l it but don't see how to link it to the icon & don't know whether it will solve the problem for me. Also see I can open document in word pad or text editor  but as I don't know html, it's a mystery to me how to format any edits / changes, etc.

Sorry, I sound like I'm whining but I think I could be a typical user in a wider market.

Thanks

Hi Jan

I would firstly recommend:-
as you add new item, untick the box for "Save html as mht...."
it is then editable in the html pane
(I think this *should* be the default - not sure is it or not..)

The advantage of MHT is it can save images from webpages locally (& style sheets whatever they do ;-)
I believe currently you cant add images to html pane - it will save images from the web but links to them (I believe)
I rarely use it unless the images are very important when saving from web

Re Block note, add the filepath of Blocknote to
Options > Program Settings > Other > Alternate Editor path
e.g.
in mine it's
C:\Program Files\BlockNote\BlockNote.exe
you can add O.Office path in place of M.S. Word Path but I dont know does it edit MHT?
BlockNote works very well and easily for MHT

You can convert from MHT to HTML - it's interface needs work:-
File > File >New HTML Document and select appropriate option from dialogue box
You should then be able to edit in situ

  • The HTML pane does not currently allow editing of MHT files. There are very few such editors around. MSWord is one, BlockNote (free) is another. If you want to edit directly in the HTML pane, uncheck "save as MHT".
  • To use blocknote, Tools>Options>Program>Other>Alternate MHT editor path
  • Your comments are welcomed. And improvements will come... (such as built-in MHT editing, Image handling in HTML editing, etc)

Pierre, I'd been holding off documenting the (fairly confusing at first) html/mht business, pending a native mht editor. May I ask if you've had any luck coming up with a native editor?

It isn't terribly hard to do (expand to tmp directory, edit, compact back), but I've got other priorities for now (calendar, bug fixes)

I think if for now default new item saves as html would make things easier (as I say dont know default - will check later, gotta go now!)
