...and how do I manually sort my items so that it "holds"?

I keep changing my items manually, but as soon as I hit "Refresh" they go back to some order that I do not want and have not applied, no matter how many times I Save the grid.

Same thing when I close and reopen the file. I am in database which includes the sample data.

Hope somebody will help, thanks!

[EDIT : I slightly updated the page about sorting which contained some outdated info : 5. Sorting and Grouping Items ]

Hi Pejay/Sandro

Sorting uses :
a- column headers when the "sort bar" is on
b- the "sort text box" (at the right  of the source bar : press alt-s to see the source bar).
c- arbitrarily manual sorting which can "hold" only if items are children of an other item, and if no other sorting is turned on (e.g. : column headers sorting or sort text box sorting.)

So...If you want some "arbitrary sorting to "hold", without sorting by any columns, you'd need to either :

1- move all your items you need to arbitrarily sort as sub items of some item (they need to be children of some item, whatever that item is) -- as explained in "c" above. Top level items won't hold any arbitrary sorting (unless you number them (see next point).

2- Or you can use a specific field in which you'll enter values to sort by (e.g. : using numbers or letters).

E.g.: move your items in the order you want them to be, select the cells in the sorting field you chose, right click and select "Renumber items". You can then use either the sort test box or the  column headers to sort your items.

Your "Renumber items" is probably grayed out because you select the items fully, instead of selecting only the cells to renumber. Check the "select mode" in the "Grid" menu. Multi-columns should be ON.
