Sometimes when I want to display the results of a search from the Live-Search  "grid" into a Search Grid, I get the new Search Grid opened and positioned immediately after the grid from where I have invoked the Omnibox.

I often have the Live-Search in its own vertical tab, so when this happens the new Search Resutls grid steals the focus of the main grid I am working on because it gets positioned to its right in its tab group.

Hope it is clear. Wanted to make a screen-cast, but could not reproduce the issue as easily.

Hi ethanrox,

I took the liberty to edit your post as I understood it. If I'm mistaken, correct it again. FYI, the Omnibox the just the little text box on the main menu. Search is actually done in the Live-Search window

As far as the original question, I could add an option
  • Live-Search: Open search results grid in the same group (or something like that)
BTW, it was like this before. A few versions back, I added some "intelligence" to open new grids in the largest group. Nobody commented as to this was a good way to do it or not

No problems.

this is what I meant:
Maybe because the icon is the same of the "Live Search Window" grid and the omnibox, I confuse them.

To the question, personally I cannot think of a scenario in which opening a new grid in the same tab group as the active grid is not always the best option.

Maybe it is just the prevalent UI decision across the programs that I use: Firefox, Directory Opus, PDF-XChange Editor...and as I am having less and less of intellectual bandwidth I need that consistency to extend to InfoQube :)

LOL, I doubt that very much.

As for the Omnibox, it is a the name of the Chrome search / address box. Firefox calls it IIRC the Awesone bar... perhaps this can help you remember it...

About the original post, I could add an option as to where to open new grids: in the same group or in the largest group

I don't have a clean install handy, but my edit menu refers to it as "Find" (I've assigned the Ctrl+Alt+F shortcut to it to be able to switch to that tab instantly).

(Those few terminological inconsistencies should probably be ironed out -- eventually)

Good idea with the shortcut.

I think "Global Search" comes closest for me.

"Find" seems OK to me, but it should replace all other references to that grid. (And "Live-search" is in fact only a mode/an option of the "Find" grid.)
