Currently it looks like it works with or w/o braces & I have utilized both styles but I'd like to standardize them.
Therein lies my problem(S).

I can change the wikitag field w/o a problem; it adds to the drop down list
But I don't know which way to go, i.e. Brackets/no brackets.
As I understand it, eventually actual wikitagging will be available in IQ but right & essentially it's just another category but I don't want to go thru the process 2x
So I need some guidance here.

Once I make alterations to the wikitags
It doesn't appear as though I can standardize the drop down list of wikitags as I can't figure out how to edit it
If I look @ fields management > Editor > Auto List is checked & I can't access the option "entry must be in list"
If I try to delete an obsolete wikitag from the drop down menu in a grid column, it won't delete

WikiTags work without braces ? Not supposed to :

If I enter tags without braces in the WikiTag field, they don't appear in the "add item" drop down menu.
I can't refer to a WikiTag (as hyperlinks) if they don't have braces

The auto list is built using  the tags you already entered. To alter the list, you only need to alter your previous entries.
e.g. : let's say you made a mistake somewhere and wrote "famaly" instead of "family", and now you always see famaly in your list. Well, you only need to search for that "famaly" tag (use the quick search, maybe). Once you found the item, go to the field, and correct the value.

I wonder is there any way of changing an auto-list to a manual list ? I dont think so - but thought I'd ask: if I untick Auto, there is then no list...

I notice the default new blank file has auto-list turned off for wikitags
To be honest I gave up using wikitags because of the Auto list showing all the combinations of possible tags that I had used in the file
I've never used a manual list in a drop-down field. Looking at the wikitag field again, I see that if I select a single wikitag from the drop-down list it removes any currently in the field. Has that always been the case? - how do people add more than one wikitag to an item? Manually? (apart from the new item dialogue where I know you can add multiple**)

** Add new item dialogue: -  the drop-down wikitag list is blank here, in my file - where auto-list is turned on & where the drop-down list shows a list in the grid. Anyone else have that - is it a bug? (used be a drop-down list where you could tick/select tags)

As I said to Jan, it seems like a bug.

The WikiTags dropdown menu in the add item dialog was also multi-select. A while ago you asked for that multiple selection ability in the grid too.

I hope Pierre implements that soon as this is really an oldy.
Personally, I'd like to have it as an option for any text field with a drop down menu... It would be very useful for project mangement.

Unless I'm really confused, It does here. And I think there is a thread on this.

If by "add item" drop down menu you mean drop down menu in wikitag field, then I can add "test" in wikitag field & it adds it to the list
If by "add item" drop down menu you mean something else, then I don't know what you are referring to & I'd appreciate it if you would clarify

Yes I can do that but I believe your example has me replacing one bracketed value with a different bracketed value. What I want to do is delete some un-used wikitags from the drop down list

You mean, you can enter "Family" (without the quotes) in the WikiTag field of an item 1, and then go to another item 2, create a hyperlink (ctrl-k) and insert "Family" (without the quotes) in the text box, and your link will work and open the item 1 where you first entered the "family" tag in the WikiTag field?

Sorry, that was not worded properly. In the add item dialog, there's a WikiTag dropdown menu. Normally, only those WikiTags which are properly formatted (those with braces) appeared there. Well, it used to be like that... I double checked, and now, as Tom noticed, the drop down menu is empty. So I guess it's a bug that appeared rather recently, but maybe a while ago... I use the WikiTag drop down menu a lot.... But as text box, not as a drop down since I rely on AutoHotKey for my tags...

Anyway, it seems to be a bug and we could enter it in Mantis if confirmed.

No, you just need to erase the value from the field where you entered it in the first place (the same way you'd modify it). Try it, you'll see.
Now, of course, if you leave it, it's going to always be part of the auto-list. That's why it's an auto-list.

you can add a word to the wikitag list without brackets (say test) - the word will show in the drop-down list -
but if you create a wikitag hyperlink using that word, the link will not show items tagged with it

I believe remember the thread you're thinking of Jan - IIRC it was discussing things more hypothetically (how things worked, what could be done)

Just to make sure that there's no confusion here : the WikiTag field is just a normal  text field. There's nothing special about it per se. What's special is how IQ treats the info you put in it : If terms are put between braces, then they are recognized as WikiTags.

Of course, the drop-down auto list (the one appearing in the grids when the WikiTag field is clicked) is just a normal auto list. So anything you add to the WikiTag field in any item will add data to the list, like any other field.
