This has been ongoing since starting to use IQ, on two different PC's.  When I click on the main text area for an item, sometimes the cursor appears.  Usually it doesn't.  Often I have to click in and out of the item repeatedly.  Other times I just start deleting to figure out where the cursor is (it's there but invisible).  It's maddening.  Occurs only in IQ, not in any other program.  Any suggestions?

In case relevant I'm using Windows 7 with high resolution displays. 2K on the laptop, 4K on the desktop.

Thanks

This happens to me also in the item text area and it is very frustrating.  Current installed Version 0.9.26Pre-Rel38 build 1/26/15 but happens with all the versions I have used.  On laptop with Windows 8.1 and desktop Windows 7.

Just tested with the sample and it still happens, have to click in and out a few times to get the cursor.

You can turn on the WYSIWYG editor, it does not have this issue.
Also, can you confirm that the properties pane does not have the issue

 FWIW:
I have similar problems in my main file with WYSIWYG enabled .

Cursor sometimes not visible
Cells can be very slow to go into edit mode - this with new items especially

I do use a font different to the default (set in options 1.2.1) , yet I dont seem to have the problem with the sample file with WYSIWYG enabled- but then I never use that for long.
I have NOT seen this problem in the properties pane.

Pierre, I appreciate your personal help here so much, but it would be so nice if when you (and anyone else) answers a question you would take the extra 60 seconds and tell us how to get there , i.e. Tools>Options>etc..  I have no idea where the WYSIWYG editor is, I can't find any reference to it by searching the online documentation, and I can't find it after searching for 15 minutes in the hundred different places in IQ it might be .

Hi David,

Sorry for not specifying, to turn-on / off WYSIWYG editing for a specific column, simply right-click on the column header.

Thanks!  Now for my next silly question.  I know what WYSIWYG stands for, but what what does turning it on actually do in the program, and why is it an option?

Hi David,

When wysiwyg is on, you can use the formatting toolbar and all formatting is shown while editing. Otherwise, you'll see html codes such as .<b> for bold.

It is an option because it is new and not fully tested and functional. Also, the simple text editor is probably more suitable for many text fields.

Ya, it fixed the blinking cursor issues but seems to have now broken other things.  Text pasted into it has all sorts of issues and I can't seem to just delete "bad" text out either.  Here's a screenshot of what shows up in text field as I hover over it.  If I type into it, it's still there.  If I cut everything out, it's still there.  This happened after copying and pasting some text from a web page.  Any suggestions?

I guess I'll read back through the thread and see if I can solve the issue some other way.

Thanks

Edit: Select All and then Cut finally allowed me to delete it out.

Beurk, ugly HTML... lol

This is now fixed. Text will be pasted as plain text unless one uses Paste Special > Paste as HTML

If you set Edit > Auto-Edit to ON and move up / down with the cursor keys, is the issue also present ?
(WYSIWYG editing off)

did a quick test with those settings and it works fine Pierre.
I had most problems after a focus change e.g. changing from another window to IQ window - no problem there either.

Is *very* much better with new items (where I noticed problems most).
When a new item is created, the item field is selected - if I simply start typing it gets recognised and works. That's a treat :-)

Good news... I was able to systematically reproduce it !!!

Steps are:
  1. Show the HTML pane
  2. In a grid click on an item to select it
  3. Now click on the text of a another item
  4. Cursor is nowhere to be seen
If you first click to select the item (i.e. click somewhere else than on text) and then click on the text to start editing, it does not happen.

David and others that have reported the issue, can you confirm this ? I should be able to fix it !

yes, I can consistently reproduce using those steps Pierre (including your last statement)

I'm working on a fix for this issue, but it seems complex..

For now, whenever the cursor is missing, simply press F2 twice, this will show it.
The issue is not present if (1) the HTML pane is not shown or (2) one first selects the item and then start editing (and set Edit > Autoedit OFF)
