i have like 100+ tabs in different panes organized on a big 4K screen
and that's what i primarly like IQ for
 
but i find that sometimes it just crashes upon closing
and then re-loads just like 1 tab only
which forces me to then re-open ALL grids once again
and arrange them all over again
 
i tried the "save Layout" option
and the "load Layout" option
but it does not seem to restore anything
 
i know there is of course the option in the Tools/Options/Modes/ 
to "Restore Layout when opening files"
 
which does work like 90% of the time
but again in that time when it all crashes 
then i wish i could just re-load it all from that saved file
rather than to manually have to re-arrange the whole thing again.

100+ tabs ? !!  My god, you're really pushing it !
Do you know that you can detach the Grids menu and dock it to the top. That way, the grid is not loaded in the workspace but still easily accessible...
 
But, a crash is never a good thing and we can work together to try to solve it. The next time it happens, can you report back the [Layout] section of the file YourFile.ini (same folder as the IQBase YourFile.sndb)

yes i actually de-tached all tabs except 1
(which i had to leave just to fill up that standard loading tab pane)
 
and then divided all the panes up into actually "pane tabs"
 
since i could drag the panes around anywhere i wanted very nicely
but the tabs can only be split horizontally or vertically
 
at least no data gets lost
just every 20th or so starting of IQ
eventually IQ crashes on exiting
and then the "load layout" command
does nothing at all to restore it

i just like to have it all nicely spread out
and with just a one click to go to it 
 
otherwise, when you have a large 4K screen
you always end up having a big wide area on the right side empty,
 
and what better way to fill it up
than with panes in IQ !

but thanks for that ini tip !
 
i figured that the easiest way
is just to make the desired layout
and then BACKUP that ini file
 
so that in case when it crashes
i just over-write again that ini file
 
and the layout is restored again

Yes, good plan.
 
But please do supply the content of the [layout] section after a crash, I'll be able to examine it and perhaps fix it
I could also automatically create a ini backup file and use it when an abnormal close occurs
 
For the record, using a number of "dashboards" grids is another useful way to manage large number of grids. See IQ as a Relational Database: Book Review Process as an example
