Just giving this version a test spin; looks great so far.

Are the Calendar-specific data fields (Where, Description, Meeting, etc) ever going to be available as Grid Columns? If not for editing, maybe accessible as calculated fields?

Yes, it should not be a problem to add these. Of course, if an item has many events, only one would be shown

Hi Pierre,
I understand the issues recurring dates pose. I try to use them as infrequently as possible. I'd much prefer to just copy & paste IQ Grid Items hence the desire for access to the Calendar-specific fields. I want to create a comprehensive Agenda grid that can be sorted and filtered and where I can easily assign Text and Background colors.
I would love the ability to have multiple Calendars eventually that I could tie to separate Grids and/or Date Field(s).

I guess you'd like something like this:
  • New: Calendar: Option to create repeating events as separate items
  • New: Calendar: Command to convert a repeating event instance to a new item + event

Those options seem reasonable but I will leave it to others who actually use repeating events to comment. Personally, I prefer to interact with the Calendar as little as possible except for visual overviews of upcoming or past weeks. To me, repeating events should just be Sub-Items with similar data so the existing Grid Cut & Paste features work fine (except for the missing Where and Description Fields). Maybe it's just me, but I have never found any "weekly event" that didn't need constant "adjustment" along the way.

Just as an aside, the major advantage of using a single Item with repeating events is having a single Document where you can keep a running commentary on events as they unfold. The same effect can be achieved by extracting the Parent Item's Document as an HTML file and then populating the ItemHTMLFile field of the Sub-Items to reference it.

The fact is that I'm currently using external HTML files so frequently I'm contemplating requesting a database option to automatically create HTML files for new Items (except on Copy as described above? or other factors?). The vast majority of my really important data is stored in Documents and this configuration lets me include them in my Version Control system (for incremental backups and tracking revisions) and makes them available outside of IQ for searching, viewing and incorporating into other documents. The major downside comes when copying Items into a different Database as the external HTML files don't come across automatically.

This is already possible... Set each grid source to a different date field, set the date field to show in the Calendar and in a different color and voilà !

Hi Pierre,
I understand that the current Calendar implementation is designed to "consolidate" Items associated with multiple Date Fields. I think you mentioned having 11 separate Google Calendars that you sync into IQ. What I envision is a pop-up CheckList of Date Fields that would normally display in the Calendar which allows me to select which Fields to include/exclude (would be nice if the CheckList could show the Colors assigned to corresponding Date Fields).

Another useful extension would be to have a separate Calendar Pane that can act simply as a different "View" of a Grid similar to the existing Surface View. I could then use the extensive Grid Filtering capabilities and use this Calendar Pane to "view" the results.

While we are discussing "wishes"... Currently, the Color assigned to a Date Field shows up in the Calendar as the Outline for the Event. This works great but it would nice to be able to adjust the thickness of the Outline. Actually, having the ability to select both the color and thickness as part of the Calendar Item dialog would be helpful.

Finally, I'll reiterate my request to make the Calendar-specific Date Fields (especially Where and Description) available to be included in Grids (even if it's as View-Only). This is final stumbling block to implementing a proper Agenda Grid.

Thanks.

Just to make sure I am understanding this right, this means that we have a new command in the Manage Fields dialog, where we can select a field and add it as a column to the Scratch grid or the Current Grid?

The first one is the same as double-click on a field in the Properties pane, the second, the same as showing the field as a column

Got it!  Thanks!

Hmmm, the calendar startup date still isn't working for me. It's now stuck somewhere in March (this set is set as the current date each restart). Also, when I click one of the buttons on the calendar toolbar, like 'Today' or [day of the month], the buttons on the toolbar aren't updated accordingly. the date on the toolbar remains "6 March 2019". I tried detaching the calendar tab and re-opening it as a tab, but that didn't make a difference, nor did changing scroll mode and some other things I tried.

Other than that: so grrrrrreat!

Have you by any chance implemented a prefix symbol for recurring items (New: ® prefix, see screenshot )? If so, I love the idea, but it seems that it's currently only applied to all-day events but not to scheduled events.

Again, many thanks!

 Hi Pierre,

In 114B the New: Grid: Option to select the expand button type: Classic, Triangles or Modern doesn't appear to be working for me.

I've retried restarting InfoQube and a clean install of the executable, but it doesn't change.

Here is a short screencast of what I am seeing.

Thanks,

Hi,

Just tried it on a fresh install (portable version) and it worked just fine.
Can you confirm that it is still an issue ?

If yes, perhaps try to run the file UnblockIQPortable.bat (enter yes to Windows security warnings), it will reset the flag which indicated that the files are from another PC
I didn't need to do this, but perhaps we have different security settings

 Hi Pierre,

I tried a fresh install of IQ and it worked correctly.

My question then is, would it be better to do a fresh install every time and copy over my user files rather than just copy the new executable over?

Related items : great feature, well implemented!

- In the manual, I'd probably try to make clearer what operation is done in a grid (e.g. the item marking), and which operation(s) is/can be performed in/from the new properties pane section (Related Items).

- The number of related items shown as a grid column could be a clickable hyperlink, but that's icing.

Humm that's a bit strange as not much has changed and it works here
Portable or installable ?
Perhaps re-download and/or do a repair with v114i and see if v114j can open it.

Please apply the v114k patch and see if the issue is resolved
(I was not able to reproduce it, so am uncertain as to the actual cause)

Database file loaded successfully again with v. 114k. Thanks, Pierre!

Also, changing the ability to change the grid background colour adds a really nice touch, though setting the colour to 'none' has the advantage of the different shades for alternating items so I'm not yet all-in.

Excellent suggestion. In v114L:
  • New: Grid: Grid background color now apply an alternate color shading if set in Options

Hi Pierre,

v0.9.114j and 0.9.114k (portable) hangs on exit (with open database).

Program stops working (freezes without any error message), force shutdown is necessary.

Database opening is working fine. I can also close (file/close) the database and exit the application (file/exit) without any issues.

Tested on WIN10 x64 and WIN7 x64. I have repaired the database on each version (v0.9.114i, 0.9.114j and 0.9.114k) without positive results.

By the way, thank you for the great work you are doing. This is the first major bug I have encountered since I have been using Infoqube (over a year now).

Best regards

Tomek

Edit: Problem solved. The hang was caused by something in the layout. After "cleaning" the layout to only one grid, saving, exiting and recreating it - all seems ok.

In v114L:
  1. New: Grid: Grid background color now apply an alternate color shading if set in Options (see image below)
  2. New: Grid: Add/Remove columns dialog now supports Precision touchpads
  3. New: Manage Fields: Support for Precision touchpads
  4. New: Manage Forms: Support for Precision touchpads
  5. New: Item Editor: Drop-down menu listing of recently edited items now has a context menu to show the item (in its home grid). Useful to view item properties
  6. Fixed: Item Editor: Issues with non-standard DPI

In addition, v114j and v114k could lock up on program close (Doc pane related). This is now fixed. A fix is coming, for now, close the file first and then close the program

HTH !

Hi IQ Users,

v114L was just re-released with a permanent (!) fix for the lock up on program close

Last step before calling a day for v114, is a UI to add / remove Related Items

Hi IQ Users !

Well, it took more than 2 months and a change log of over 100 items, but v114 is finally complete. We hope that the new Related Items Links will be a useful tool !
As is often the case, what started as a small addition, turned out to have impacts on many elements of the InfoQube's UI:
  • Properties Pane
  • Grid Column
  • More Info Pane
  • Related Items Toolbar
  • Status Bar
  • Doc pane (New footer contains "See also" links)
  • Related Items dialog

In v114m:
  1. New: Related Items dialog: Floating dialog to view / add / remove related items (Ctrl+R). Links to new items (i.e. non-existent) is also possible
Select from all items or only those in a particular grid. Use it in the Doc pane when links come to mind or to remind yourself of another document to write and/or update
  2. New: Calendar events: Item > Item Events menu command which shows Add / Edit Event command and the list of item events
Right-click on an event to show 3 context menus: Edit, View in Calendar, Delete
  3. Fixed: Grid: Improved drag-drop (more Win10 Explorer-like
If something significant comes up, v114 will be updated, otherwise onto v115 which will focus on the Calendar

HTH !

Also fixed in the next version is that it did not move the Calendar to the correct date if it wasn't already loaded (i.e. the first time)

Hi IQ Users !

My mother told me numerous times "never say never"... and she was of course right

So... here is v114n which includes:
  • New: Grid: Related Items column: Hyperlink list of Related items. Copy / Paste / Delete list or individual items
  • New: Grid: Copy / Paste items now also copies Related Items links
  • New: Grid: Tags column now list tags as hyperlinks
  • New: Settings: New placeholder: [CurrentItem]: Will display the current item on the title bar
  • Change: Grid: Hyperlinks are no longer shown underlined to improve legibility
Is the Related Item feature set finally complete ? You tell me !
It's close, no doubt there. Read all about it here: Related Items Links

Related Items column is lovely :D

Minor issue which you probably already know -- any changes require a refresh to display.
Incuding:
new links
removing links via the 'x' aftere link in the column

Hi Tom,

The grid updates here. Could it be that that grid is not set to auto-update ? Or else are you referring to some other UI...

The grid where I initially had the problem is set to auto-update.

I tested in the Welcome grid in the sample file with a clean portable version -- doesnt update here (as described above). I see that that 'Grid auto-update' is deselected for this grid. I turn it on but there is no change (even after restarting IQ).

Windows 7 x64, cant think of any other relevant info that might cause my system to act differently (?)

Re the Sample file:
  1. none of the open grids have auto-update selected -- is that intentional (seems it would be easier for a new user if 'on')
  2. there are two items already marked -- this caused me confusion (I selected four items and 'Link items' from the context menu -- they got linked to the marked items - it seemed to make the linking process unstable i.e. this happened a couple of times in my attempts but not clearly reproducible)

Hi Tom,

You're right, a couple of things to fix still it seems

BTW, the Auto-update flags (grid, master file switch) are not used to this kind of update. It is more for adding / removing items based on field values

 Hi Pierre,

I just updated v0.9.114p patch.
When accessing my IQ DB, the opened grids were gone.
I remember reading about a workaround to restore previously opened grids, in cases like that.
Does that option really exist?

Thank you!

Hi Carlos
any chance you could reduce your screenshot to about half the width (or maybe even less) -- the width of the image affects the whole thread -- on an FHD screen I have to horizontally scroll a lot, makes the thread almost unreadable in places.
Thanks!

Hi Carlos,

You have a (large) number of grids, but they are all currently shown in panes
The blank area is the actual Tab workspace (where grids are normally shown)

Open any view and it should fill that space

 Hi Pierre,

Just reporting that with version 0.9.114p, sometimes IQ closes/crashes suddenly when I'm writing/editing text on the Docpane.
When I reopen the IQ the text I written is there, no data is being lost. Just random closes/crashes indeed.

If you need further info, let me know.

No, the bold ones are the key features of that release

A few things that will be announced in v115 are in this v114s
but for the most part, it was simply to extend the free period -- for those that did not contribute to IQ development and rely on versions being updated
(v114r was ending in 20 days or so)
