When I search for something like 'me', I will get all kinds of results, like 'meine' or 'mechanicon'. Being able to tell IQ that I really wanted to find only the word 'me' would be great. Hence I would like to request a kind of operator that would find "me" only if there wasn't an alphanumeric character adjoining on either side of the search string. Notepad++ search, for example, has this feature. I thought Ecco had it, too, but apparently it doesn't.

'me' and '"me"' (without the single quotes) don't create different search results for me at all. I could use '" me "' with spaces, but that excludes any items where 'me' is the first word or where it is followed by punctuation.

I experimented some more and it seems that using quotation marks results in an exact string search (e.g. "the calendar") but does not have any effect when used with single words. I.e. with single words, the search results are the same whether you use quotation marks or not. Hence, word-only type searches don't seem possible ATM.

Issue still stands for me. Does "me" with quotation marks work for everyone else to filter out longer words (e.g. "meaning") from Omnibox search results? Thanks.

I confirmed your results: using quote marks does not limit search to single words.

Thanks, Wayne! Pierre, please consider this a requested feature. Cheers!

Just renewing my request for this - using quotation marks still doesn't cut it for me.

 +1 for me also.

A lot of other programs have a check box for "Search whole word".  Really helps especially if you're just searching for a word that's initials by itself, but is contained in hundreds of words.

Out of curiosity with me being lazy right now to look it up, is InfoQube Omnibox search Text, Regex or Boolean?  Or some other form that I'm not aware of, which I'm sure are many.

Thanks,
Larry

Hi Left,

While this isn't directly supported in the Omnibox, it brings you to the Live-Search grid which now fully supports "match whole words only"

For single words, it works as expected
For multiple words, all words must match the search string

Just gave this a try with the following result:

search for 'me' (without the quotes)
- 'word only' search disabled: 7003 matches, 0.23 seconds
- 'word only' search active: 72 matches, 21.1 seconds plus one Windows beep sound

Not sure if the Windows beep / bump sound is a good sign. Also, is the hundredfold increase in search duration as expected?

Still, it certainly does the job. Many thanks!

re Beep: Oups, my mistake. Yes, that would slow down the search. I'll fix it and issue an interim release
