When I try to create a new (text) field for display in a grid that has already been heavily populated with data, the column appears on the grid but will take no input.  I then tried changing

In "manage fields", when I try to sum children to parents, I am told that the sum function is not found.

Documentation says that I should be able to see "User code" on the "View" menu (at least that's what I infer from the information in the documentation on parent-child (column)

I only sometimes am given the option to edit posts -

e.g.

Simply copying text from item field

 

currently when I click on an item, the item is selected - good I think cause it was very difficult to select items before

Ctrl+G Column Filter (as you type)
