Scenario is that my database wouldnt open.
I hadnt made a backup on program close, so I didnt want to revert to previous backup unless I had no choice.
But I thought I'd try the previous backup to see how it looked/worked.

I renamed my original IQbase.
Then I renamed my backup to my original file name (i.e. I stripped out the date and corrected the extension) and moved it into the same folder as the original.
The newly renamed backup opened fine
I then opened the renamed original, it opened fine.

Then I removed the backup, and reverted the original file to it's original name. It opened fine.

Does that mean that the problem was with the ini file?
Could this have been todo with problems with file being unable to open previous grid?
I know that's reported here somewhere & probably in the manual but didnt know where/how to begin searching. Anyone know where that is?

Would simply deleting the ini file be a possible solution in a case like this?
Just curious at this stage :-)

Thanks Armando,
if my file is set to remember last opened grid and open with that grid open - and if that doesnt work -
isn't there a way to start the file bypassing that setting? (maybe keeping a key pressed while it's opening or something like that)
do you/anyone know how to do that?

Are you having a problem with a specific DB ?
If yes, you could try opening another DB (if you have one handy) by double clicking on it. Then, change the setting in the options.
Apart from that I'm not aware of any modifier you could pressed while it's opening. That could be an idea to implement (the splash screen could say : "Hold the shift key if you don't want IQ to open the last DB")

Maybe I dreamt it Armando ;-)

Pierre, did I dream it ? - is there an (emergency) way to stop a database opening last open grid (apart from changing options)

Armando, it could have been helpful in the example above - so I was thinking I should check it out in case I run into the problem again.

 Try Pressing Shift on startup

(I don't use the auto-load feature anymore, now that the list of recent files is shown on startup...)

Thanks Pierre!

I remembered it wrong - I thought it actually loaded the last opened file - but didnt open it with the last opened grid open (starting to sound like a tongue twister..)
It's a helpful one to know/remember anyway !

If Shift on start up does it, then it should probably be made more obvious -- in the splash screen, maybe.

to be fully clear:

Pressing Shift on startup causes the last open file to *not* load.
Also the File menu is expanded.

I remember this was helpful to me once when IQ for some reason couldnt open the file, so I was stuck with a non-responsive window -
I cant remember how I fixed that problem (the file), but the first step was getting IQ to open without the problem file...
