Sorry to be a nuisance but I have one or two observations.
  1. The menu customisations were lost but I'm getting quite used to it now so don't worry.
  2. The 'New Item...' dialog is really good! But I think this command should appear at the top of the 'Item' menu.
  3. I haven't been able to get the online manual up in the Welcome database, it seems a little complex.  The Welcome database seems just the same as it was.
I tried importing a few text files but there are a couple of problems.
  1. If you try to import more than a few text files then it imports none of them, I haven't figured out what the limit is but it isn't very big.
  2. My text files are imported as one single line of text with no line breaks.  It might be an idea to provide the choice of line break character between the Linux/Unix format and the MSDOS format as a checkbox.
The rendering of the files which were imported was very slow but I think this was due to the program trying to handle the entire text (a book) as one single line of text.

Hi Paul,
  1. You must be an expert at menu customization by now. I promise you I'll look into a way to prevent this reset if possible
  2. Good suggestion, I'll think about it
  3. Strange, I'll add the Welcome to IQ IQBase to the download section
  4. Fixed, it should support up to approx 1000 files now
  5. I've improved the plain text import significantly

I now have the user manual notebase up and running.

Infact I now have three, the one I mistakenly thought was the manual is a copy of the original Welcome notebase and will be deleted shortly.  I downloaded the WelcomeToIQ (Welcome.SNDB) from the download page of this website and there is one which has been installed by the program (IQmanual.SNDB) these last two are very similar in content but the formatting and layout of the pages is not identical.  IQmanual.SNDB is larger in size (22972 kB) than Welcome.SNDB (6632 kB) but they seem to have the same content, Welcome.SNDB has better formatting and layout.

Having the manual as an InfoQube notebase is really good.

Am I correct in thinking that the synchronisation updates individual items with newer items from the source and doesn't just update the whole notebase ?

If there was a possibility that this synchronisation could be two way then that would open up the possibility for collaborative working by many people on the same notebase.

This is not a facility I would have occasion to use but it might be of interest to some people.

LOL,

For the record, IQManual.SNDB was never installed by the program. It is a manual capture, by users Keith and DragonGem. There are a couple of versions, some of which are larger because they include all images.

It is that effort by these two (way too dedicated) users which triggered the work of a live-sync with the web site server

Regarding sync, the following applies:
  1. Sync uses the field IQDocNID.
  2. If an item exists with book page node id, it is used else an item is created
  3. The fields Item and HTML are updated with the doc content
  4. There are a few Regexp substitutions made, as defined in the SQLSynchIQDoc.xml file
    1. Relative paths are converted to absolute ones
    2. Internal links (node:nodeid enclosed by [ ]) are converted to URLs and to an IQBase internal link (IQDocNID=nodeid)
  5. You can add any other field values / tags and these will not change after a sync
  6. New doc items will appear under the correct parent item. It's positional order may not match the web site though
I updated the doc with this info

Regarding 2-way sync, it is quite possible (not for the IQ manual of course), but it is something that could easily be added

If someone asks for it, I'll do it

Thank you! What an awesome start to 0.9.111.
The user manual is formatted wonderfully, and that's a great idea to put it in the sample IQBase.
And thanks for the double-click close.

In v111a is now online:
  1. New: Improved dialog when opening / adding grids
  2. New: Field Properties: Date fields format can be set using a dropdown list (similar to numeric fields)
  3. New: itemsTagged field: List all items that have a tag. Can use this to get the list of items in a particular grid that do or that do not have tags

I can confirm that the text import now works correctly.

When many files are imported they all get the correct content within the document pane.

The lines are handled correctly for both MSDOS and Linux/Unix files automatically without having to select the format.

I don't know the limit but I have just imported 692 files without a problem.

The files are actually copied into the notebase so even if the drive which contained them is unplugged they are still there.

Wonderful.

If I was being picky I could say that the names still have their file extensions and that it would be better if they were imported as children of the selected item instead of being added at the top of the grid.  So it's a good job I'm not being that picky.

In v111c:
  1. New: Grids: Tab color. Right-click on a tab to set the tab color. Supports named colors
  2. New: Grid: Improved drag / drop. Faster and more accurate. Hold Shift to drop as a child of the item
  3. New: Grid: Numerous improvements to drag / drop

Re: "Hold Shift to drop as a child of the item"
this does work really well -- is it intentional though that there is now no mouse-only method of moving an item to become a sub-item of a non-TLI ?

(If intentional, I would say it better to have both:
imagine a new user: using 'shift' in this scenario is the kind of neat 'trick' that they will find out about at some stage, but until they do find it out, they will struggle -- i.e. unintuitive as the only method ...)

Excellent work on all three counts! The new drag and drop is much faster, even though I still find it very hard to get the grid to scroll up or down while dragging and dropping - the target area for the mouse pointer to achieve just seems too small...

One other thing that bugged me while trying out the new drag and drop (between different grids): Is there a way to adjust the height of the grids' tabs (I have a vertical tab bar for my grids - screenshot attached to illustrate what I mean.)? As it is, it's pretty hard to target the right tab for the grid that you want to drag an item to. Having tabs have about twice the current height would feel be about right for me. (As you can see I generally don't keep a lot of grids open so I'm not short of space on that bar.)

Cheers!

Hi,

Great !
  1. Scrolling starts as soon as I hover over the first / last item, after a 1 second delay or so, are you using a high DPI display ?
  2. In the next version, I added a setting for the tab height (tools > options)

Dear Pierre,

Yes, I do still exist and I am still using InfoQube. Just rather busy - aren't we all?

There used to be a restriction that IQ would only sync with one database at a time. Does the synced user manual (MySQL) mean that I can no longer sync to another database (SQLite in Zotero)? Because if it does, then I will need to switch off the manual sync. If I can't do that then I shall stick at version 110...

Hi Mark,

Glad to see you here, it's been a while !!

As written in the doc (  ): 5. Synchronization with Remote Databases
[quote]
If syncing with more than one remote database, leave Sync Config File blank and put all config files in the same folder as the IQBase. InfoQube will ask you which ones to sync (uses SQLSync*.xml as a matching pattern)

The tab height setting is just what I wanted, many thanks!

The drag and drop improvement seems broken. It worked for me once, so I dragged an item to be another's child. Then when I dragged the item back to its original position, it disappeared for good.

After that, I wasn't able to do any kind of drag and drop at all, not even at the top level.

Reverted back to 111c and everything seems to be okay again.

Said item has since reappeared at the very top of the grid.

Great, it works now - and I believe everyone should be much happier with this new modus operandi...

If you wanted to improve drag and drop further (and approach perfection), I believe the logical next step would be to check if the target item that another item is being dragged to is already a parent item, and in that case to unfold that branch so that the drag and drop operation can continue directly on the next level. I hope I'm being clear: drag, hover over bottom half of item with subitems, then drag to the final destination between the subitems and drop - or hover over another parent on the lower level to unfold another branch and so forth...

Many thanks for all your weekend work, Pierre!

Hi Pierre,

Nice work, getting pretty powerful.  I notice with this i build that in Calendar View, the "Item Back View" icon (the tipping paint bucket) is changing the font color instead. So both it and "Text Fore Color" both change the font color, no way to change the "bar" color (the back view color) that I can see.

Thanks Pierre. These changes have resolved issues #1 and #6 for my purposes (in your usual comprehensive manner). IQ gets more productive and enjoyable to use with each iteration! I can hardly wait to see what 2019 will bring.

Hi Pierre, question -

When I use the IQ html pane and it's various nested commands to create an html document, it's consistently saved as an shtml doc, including even when I activate Write from within the html pane to do some input, inked text, picture insert, etc.  The challenge I'm encountering is that in the field (the jobsite) Write on the Galaxy Note can't "see" the shtml format doc, it only "sees" html format, so I can't add anything additional with Write from the field.  Write will "see" the doc when I engage it from within the IQ html pane, but not on it's own.  So it's only working one way, IQ to Write.

On the other hand if I create an html doc with Write in the field, I can import it into IQ's html pane, it retains it's original html doc format, and then I can engage both ways, open with IQ and wright to Write, and open with Write and write to IQ.

I'd like to create check lists in the IQ html pane then use them in the field but can't because the document is always reformatted/renamed shtml - and Write doesn't recognize that format.

Thoughts?

thankks
Doug Bartlett

I use this feature often, and set the Write file to be available offline (in the Dropbox app). So out in the field, I can use the pen to annotate the document and it syncs back so I can then continue on my PC

Hi Doug,

I find that if I explicitly save the document in Write for Android before exiting, I do not get any conflict
Steps are:
  1. Create Ink document in IQ
  2. Rename it to something more meaningful than ItemXXXX.shtml
  3. In Android, open Dropbox
  4. Sort the list by date. The new Ink document should be near the top
  5. Click on the ... menu and select Available Offline and / or Add to Favorites
  6. Tap on the file. Write for Android should open
  7. Make your changes
  8. Click on Save (Add the Save button on the toolbar if it isn't)
  9. IQ should detect the change and update within seconds
