I just installed the latest update - 09.24 Build 2009-05-24 0h10 (Portable) - and then installed the Thunderbird clipper. (No need to uninstall previous clipper - this was the first installation of the T-Bird clipper for me). I have tried clipping a few messages from T-Bird. Just click on the IQ button, right? No sound, no visible indication that the clip was successful. No clipped email messages have appeared in IQ, and no *.sndb.Files added anywhere. Is there a step or two that I have missed? Does anything else need to be configured - in either Thiunderbird or IQ - prior to the clipper working?

Also I noticed a post where Jan mentioned that he is using the IQ-supplied Email grid. I had thought that the long-standing "Inbox" grid would be the natural place to "catch" the email messages clipped, just as web page clips are. Is there a separate "Email Grid" that I haven't found? I thought that perhaps some new grids were added to a sample database on the download page, so I downloaded the Sample database available there but there are no email-associated grids in that either.

Thanks, I appreciate any help with this.

Jim

it seems to be broken in new version allright

Info about how it should work

I dont think it works without having an IQ db open
Select mail, click icon or "Copy to IQ" on context menu
In IQ file, create new grid with "Emails" as source, no inverted commas - emails should be there.

I do have IQ and a database open and I have tried highlighting a message in the message list and then clicking the toolbar icon and when that didn't work I used the contect menu command. That didn't work either. Next I tried just highlighting the text of the message and then again the toolbar icon and the context menu. Nothing captured at all. Weird.

It does not appear to be working from Firefox 3 either. Pierre, I am not certain what's wrong but neither clipper is working. Firefox clipper WAS working before this.

In bugs forum I reported FF extension not working for FF 3.0 or FF beta 3.5.  I don't use / have TB on my netbook.

Thanks!

I was able to reproduce the problem. I'll look at it first thing tomorrow. (the funny thing is that I don't recall changing anything, except for the name change...)

Great! So you figured out how that happened by only changing the name?

Thanks!

It is worst than that... It took me a good 2 hours today to find out that I simply overwrote the new extensions with outdated ones just before creating the zip file.

Pierre,

Are the updated extensions available for download anywhere? Or do we wait for the next release?

They are in the current Zip file (portable package)

OK, I downloaded the Portable zip again and reinstalled both extensions. THe Firefox clipper failed the first attempt - actually it did add something but only the one line that shows in the popup dialog. Second attempt did get the page.

The T-Bird clipper also apparently works, but as I asked earlier, where can I see it in IQ? I looked on the Inbox grid but it's not there. The little tray popup tells me that it is stored in "Email", which is a field. Not available in a grid? Is there something else I must do? I have scoured the documentation but nothing there tells me how to see the email in IQ. And yes, I know that it is stored in a separate folder, but that doesn't really help, as I figure I should be able to see a clipped email within IQ.

Thanks!

Create a new grid with the name "Emails". Open the grid, you should see the imported emails.

Basically, you've got some work understanding how IQ works, specifically the relationship between fields and grids. I'll see if I can find or come up with a page that expains it clearly.

Yep - Always have, haven't I? C'mon Pierre! We've had this talk many times. I don't need things to necessarily be self-explanatory for me to use them...  But I definitely do much better with a ready reference to guide me!

Great - I would really appreciate that.

Thanks again, Pierre!

OK, I have it but it is kinda weird, Pierre.

I created a grid named Email. At creation it had three fields assigned to it: Item, Store, and Quantity. Now Store and Quantity were fields I created for a Multi-Store Shopping List grid a long time ago. Why do fields from that grid always show up in new grids? And how can I change that?

Anyway there was one item showing in this new Email grid: SQLNotes. And the HTML pane shows the "Welcome to SQLNotes" page. I made the Source Bar visible and it shows the source as "Email". I opened Manage Grids and removed the Item, Store, and Quantity fields and added the following fields: Email, EmailDate, EmailSender, and Email Recipients. However after saving only two stay and two disappear. After repeating this several times all four fields finally are showing. The SQLNotes email address shows, but the HTML pane still shows the "Welcome" page.

Somehow this doesn't seem intuitive to me.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Jim

I cant help you with those field issues - but one major thing
The source should be Emails  -  plural of Email  -
The Email field is the field in your Contacts grid that shows email addresses

Tom is correct. Please double check my post. I refer to a Grid named Emails.

The way it works is this: If you create a grid with the same name as a field, the grid will use that field as the source of items. Emails (ID=85) is the yes/no field used to indicate an item is an imported email and is used by the TB extension.

The Email field is the field that contains the actual email address.

OK, I have it now.

But this is why I use IQ so sparingly; where could I have found out how to do this, other than asking in a series of posts over a couple days? Every time I decide to really dig in, I find myself reading through all the documentation over again and not finding much new there. Then I end up here. And the forum still slows down to a crawl at least a couple of times a day.

Must be me!

Thank you.

No it isn't you...
  • The web site is 95% of the time really fast (2 sec. page load) or 5% of the time terribly slow (>40 sec.). It seems random. The hosting company is aware, Not sure if it will be fixed. As soon as more funds come in (hint... hint ), I'll switch hosting company, as I'm pretty much exasperated by them.

  • As for IQ itself, it helps if you're coming from Ecco, but I'll post a page to get newcomers up to speed.

Well I'm totally exasperated by them & have shown that for some time now.  How much $$ do you need to move to a new service? It would benefit all of us to make a contribution to support this move.

I could buy the other half of my liscence if that would help

Just thinking about the recent donationcoder fund raiser (the 'fun razor') - it's not a bad idea to ask - if you want to start a thread here one of us could mention it there as well for a little extra coverage

Saying that, I've had no problems since you last moved - but it hasnt been that long and maybe I'm here mostly off-peak (dunno cause I'm in europe anyways)

in fairness Jim, you're talking about a programme thats in beta . . which makes me think ... see 3. Importing Emails into InfoQube  for info about email field (down the bottom) - if anythings missing let me know!
