Is it possible to Export to HTML in InfoQube that exports each Item to an individual file with the File Name being the Item Name and the Document pane being the HTML?
Thanks,
Larry

Hi Larry,
No because nobody asked it before... will you be the first to ask ?
You're too good. Please allow me to be the first to request this. I finally got all my data imported when you released IQ with the 9.115c release that didn't add file names and locations and updated to 9.115d.
Being able to export individual files would mean I could start using IQ as my main IM which is what I've been wanting to do for awhile now. The reason I need to keep some other IM's updated is basically I need the info mobile and I can sync them to my android devices. I keep trying to look up ways to work IQ data and be able to look it up on Android but so far I can't find anything easy enough for me so for now my way works.

Have you considered using Dropbox sync ? It syncs the .Files folder, so if your items are using one of the files type for the Doc pane, these would be available on your Dropbox on your mobile.
And if you star / offline these file, they would be easy to find. Editing on your mobile should work too Just an idea...
Thanks for the info. Yes I do use Dropbox and have it syncing on Android and all my computers.
I just haven't found an app that I can read and search the native IQ data files with. I know it's SQL but I don't know anything about it. I'm trying to learn it a little at a time.
As I use it now, I have one EPIM I can export into that I sync over Wifi to Android. I have another that I export into that I sync over Dropbox to Android. They both have their strengths and weaknesses.
Are you aware of any program I can export IQ databases into? I just need to look up info every now and then. Basically just to search for words using either "find next" or "find all" and to see the document. That's it, I don't need to edit it and sync it back.
I really appreciate all the help and for InfoQube.
each IQbase (SNDB file) has a related files folder where the doc pane content is stored.
Have a look in the folder: YourFileName.SNDB.Files. (In my dropbox setup, it is a sibling folder to the 'sync' folder which contains the SNDB file.)
Within that folder are html files (or mht files) for each item with content in the doc pane. The only weak link here is that the file name is the item number e.g. ItemID2200.htm
Errr, my IQMaster.SNDB.Files folder is still and always has been empty even though I do have text in the HTML pane of more than a few items. Is this folder maybe just used for images or somesuch? Thanks!

Pierre will have to chime in here!
I'm on a new machine and will have to check my dropbox settings, but:
There are html & mht files here but there's a lot less files here than items with html.
FWIW the files that are in my folder have text and images (with html there's a folder of the same name / mht has images included).
I've been fiddling with HTML documents today. As far as I can tell, there are two types of HTML files in the document pane:
1) an embedded HTML document is the default that you get when you type something in the document pane. Those don't show up in the IQMaster.SNDB.Files folder because they are inside the database.
2) When you make an attached HTML file (created using Menu > File > New > New HMTL file from within the document pane) then you get an external HMTL file in the IQMaster.SNDB.Files folder.
You can convert your embedded HTML document (1) into an external HTML file (2) for an existing item. using Menu > File > New > New HTML file from within the document pane. Don't let the name put you off. You will get a prompt that says "2-Convert the current document to an HTML file" as well as "3-Cancel", so you're not at risk of losing your data.
I think the HTML files (2) are the ones that Pierre is referring to when he talks about Dropbox sync. You can test creating some of those and seeing if you can get those visible on Android.
External HTML files in the InfoQube folder are full-text searchable and viewable via the OneDrive app on my Android phone. So you don't need to worry about having human-readable filenames, since OneDrive will find anything for you. Might be easier than exporting them, if all you want is to view them on the go.
I'm going to try this now. If I can use it in the OneDrive Personal Vault this can be a game changer for me.
I've never tried the OneDrive app, am going to load it now.
Thanks,
Larry
P.s.- Ahhh, that's what Pierre was telling me about Dropbox. I use Dropbox but didn't know I could have a local copy of all the HTMLs so I misunderstood. If this could be done automatically than that would be amazing.
I wasn't even aware you could do this. That would be great if I could set all the clips and new entries to automatically create a local HTML with all the images etc.
I need it to show images etc in all the Items even if I'm offline. I can't use MHT because I can't export Items with images from it.
What I'm seeing in my OneDrive app is that it will find text inside the HTML and preview the page, but it loses the images of a file that was clipped "normally" where the images are in a sub-folder, because it cannot follow OneDrive file path references on the phone.
If what you want is to see (not edit) the HTML including pictures, one thing you can try is to save the file using the SingleFile add-on in Firefox or Chrome, and storing it in a OneDrive folder. To use it in InfoQube you can attach (not embed) that HTML file to an InfoQube item.
OneDrive finds your file as it is stored in your folder, so the fact that it is linked to InfoQube is moot. To view the file, use the HTML viewer app, not a phone web browser.
I have OneDrive for business, so do check that it also works for OneDrive for home users.
[edit] I don't know how to convert an existing InfoQube html document to the SingleFile format, since it works by clipping a web page. If that could be made to work, it would be a great way to export what you have in your database already.
Thanks for more info on that. I tried it out and to see if it could work but it would take a local copy of all Items in the IQ database to really work the way I'd like.
The way I'm doing it now works pretty well. I've spent a good part of the last few years finding out what exports well out of one Information Manager and into another as close to the original as possible. I don't mess with the CSV or OPML files since I need images with them.
So what I do now is working good, just a little time consuming. But I have some time.
Thanks for the hints, always good to see how things are done.
Nothing groundbreaking, it's just trial and error of getting info out of other programs and into InfoQube and vice versa. Also trying to keep it as close to the original as possible.
I use a few different programs daily. InfoQube, MyInfo, NoteCase Pro and EssentialPIM. With all of them I can usually get what I need to do done and I get mobile.
I had migrated across many programs and ended up a year ago with putting all my notes in Myinfo.
I needed to export the data from MyInfo into InfoQube, EssentialPIM and NoteCase Pro. MyInfo is one of the only ones that exports to TreePad Plus HJT (with images) instead of just text and it retains the formatting for Styles and Trees very well.
Getting data into EPIM and NoteCase Pro is a no brainer. They both import TreePad HJT files.
I just export Treepad Plus format from MyInfo with all the Topics and import them into those two programs and that's done.
To get that info into InfoQube I then exported from EPIM seperate HTML files and NOT in tree structure (the other programs didn't export separate files).
I then import into InfoQube using the Text Files option on the whole directory.
Since InfoQube didn't import the images in those files since they were separate image files, I first searched for any <IMG file imbedded in the code in that export directory with a free text and source code editor called Notepad++. I found it can search for files in a directory of source code. Pretty cool.
I go through the list of image files, search for them first in EPIM and just copy all in the document area. Then jump over to IQ and select all and delete everything in the doc pane for that Item, and then Paste HTML from the original. Now it has all the images and text the way it was originally. That's the most manual part but I only have to do that a few times. I don't have too many Items with images outside of IQ.
That's basically it. Pretty boring and a little time consuming but it works pretty well.
The easiest way to get info out of InfoQube I found is select all the items I want to export. Do a Copy Special, then 2 Style Based Outline. Then I open up MS Word and past into that. Word does a good outline of it AND MyInfo has an Import function for Word Outlines and does a great job of separating the Items individually. Then I can export it into the other programs.
Long winded eh? The reason I do all this is I found out the other programs don't import/export correctly or some change the source code into symbols so I've come to this for now.
There seems to be so many differences in the same import exports from different programs, like there's not some written code for how each one works. Except for TreePad HJT. The only differences in that are either Text version (lite) and images, text and formatting (pro). I don't know, it's kind of crazy.
Thanks for the explanation! It's really helpful to see what works and what doesn't in terms of import methods into InfoQube.
I'm in the middle of my own data migration into InfoQube. My data comes from Evernote, Google Keep, OneNote, and I'm playing with Android apps to see what can produce OPML to import into InfoQube.
Like you, I am finding the image references in existing notes to be the hard part, and CSV files to be a non-viable data transfer format. To get new content directly into InfoQube, EmailToIQ is a great data transfer tool.
To see InfoQube data on my phone, I now have one of my grids as exported HTML file downloaded to my phone, in the format "table with columns" including the document pane, so I can click on the web links in the grid. That one doesn't have images in it.
Still plenty to work out in terms of import and export formats. If I can get an efficient method going, I might write it up in a blog post.
Thanks for looking into it. Even if you don't have time to do it right away it'll be nice to know if it's possible in the future for the multiple single files export.
And yes, the Evernote sync works great, I appreciate you adding that in. That solved one of the major hurdles for me.
Just tried out Pre6 and the Export to Multi Files works perfectly and better than expected since I can choose plain text or formatted, depending on what I want.
Thank you very much for implementing that. It's one of the things I've been waiting on to be able to use IQ as my main Info Manager since I need to export info often.
We appreciate all the work you constantly put into IQ. It keeps getting better and better.

Can the DocPane be set to create automatically/permanently "HTML file" when creating a new item?
Currently, I need to click on New Document>New HTML file. But I would like every DocPane being already set as "HTML file", always.
Thank you,
Carlos

How are you doing it now? I'd love to learn from your experience, since I'm still figuring this stuff out.
