 Hi,

By using the IQ universal clipper/new item/emailToIQ I usually assign items to "inbox".
I think "inbox" as a temporary home for those items.
Every item having ItemHome "inbox" will necessarily be moved to another grid in my workflow.
After placing those items into different destination grids, they keep the ItemHome set as "inbox", and I always need to manually change the ItemHome field manually.
Any automated way to change ItemHome "inbox", replacing it with the grid (or other) name I'm moving the item into?

Thank you,
Carlos

Ps.: Other than for "inbox", I do find useful the ItemHome field being set with the grid name in which it was created. Probably it will stay set this way forever.
However, for the "Inbox" grid that is a temporary "home", it is being redundant having to manually change every time the ItemHome "inbox" field.
The  handling of the ItemHome "inbox" field is particularly confusing after you have moved the items to other grids, and then performing a search. The search output will still list "inbox" on "Show in" search field.
Even the item doesn't exist in the grid inbox anymore, when I click on "Show in" Inbox, the item does appear in the grid "hoisted".
Here a screencast illustrating the case: https://bit.ly/2X6XsoA
So, every general tip to handle the "inbox" home field is very welcome.

Hi Carlos,

Good point !

How about if moving an item from Grid1 to Grid2 also changed the ItemHome to Grid2 if it is Grid1 ?
Dragging an item from one grid to another while holding the Ctrl key would NOT change the ItemHome of course, as the item remains

Hi Pierre,

I would be in favour of having item dragging change ItemHome automatically as you describe.

I also like the idea of "having item dragging change ItemHome automatically".

Further comments:

a) What about keep the behavior as it is when just dragging and dropping the item. And "having item dragging change ItemHome automatically" when holding ALT key?
If the ALT modificator isn't a good idea, then "having item dragging change ItemHome automatically" is ok.

b) Is there any special use for ItemHome? Any functionality that is directly related to ItemHome?
Let's say I want to completely ignore ItemHome, will my workflow be impacted? Will I be ignoring important stuff?
I'm asking that because I'm feeling ItemHome is just making things more complex.

c) Considering ItemHome can be ignored depending on the users' workflows, is there any way to set search column "Shown in" to not list ItemHome?
If it is not possible yet, so could such option be implemented?
If follows a suggestion:

Thank you!
Carlos

Reviewed. The other way sounds better:
Having item dragging change ItemHome automatically would be the default behavior.
The ALT modificator is to keep the current ItemHome after dropping the item.

Hi Carlos,

For EmailToIQ, you can set parameters in the subject field of your email. The manual explains it in 2. Send To InfoQube using EmailToIQ. So if your email has the title "New Message", then you can write it as "New Message // /Gridname /Inbox=0" (without quotes) which will assign it to Gridname when it imports, but I'm not sure if the "/Inbox=0" part will unassign the inbox, so try it out. Perhaps it is "/Inbox=" (without quotes).

If you never want to assign emails to Inbox, you could also try changing setting 2.3.4 to remove Inbox from the list of auto-assigned fields, or add another auto-assigned field.

If you want "Inbox" to be automatically unassigned when you add an item to another grid, perhaps creating an Auto-assignment rule on the grid Y/N fields that you choose can make that happen? See Field Management Dialog - Equations for how auto-assignment rules work. In your IQbase, the fields "Today" and "Tomorrow" have auto-assignment rules that you can look at as an example.

I hope this helps.
