I updated to 126.2, then changed the option setting for double-click action from "edit cell" to "expand/collapse" item.
When I double-click items now, sometimes it enters edit mode and sometimes it expands the outline.
Whatever it does, it does consistently. Items that expand, always expand; items that enter edit mode, always enter edit mode. Two items can be next to each other in the outline and have opposite effects for the double-click.
I can't figure out anything that would affect why it does one or the other.

Hi Wayne, When I try it…
Hi Wayne,
1) Confirmed for the dozen…
1) Confirmed for the dozen cases I tried. It also enters edit if there ARE sub-items, most of the time but not always.
2) Single-click is set to Select.
OK, I was not able to…
OK, I was not able to reproduce it, but I have an idea of the cause. I'll issue an update
Now, what should be the action if there are no sub-items. If double-click is set to Expand/Collapse, should nothing happen or are you happy with the current fallback action of Edit?
Going to edit is fine.
Going to edit is fine.
Not to bring up a side issue…
Not to bring up a side issue (as I bring up a side issue), but the reason i switched to this option is that i was increasingly having trouble using the buttons to expand/collapse. The "hit area" seemed to be shrinking and I was increasingly missing the mark. I'm sure it has nothing to do with me getting older.
I'm not asking for a change at all, but if you happen to look in that area, you might consider expanding the hit area a bit. I know it can't be too big or you'll be expanding the outline when you only want to select the cell.

The "hit area" seemed to be…
AFAIK, nothing has been changed w.r.t. the expand hit area in ages, years... Can you confirm that previous versions had a larger hit area?
