I updated to 126.2, then changed the option setting for double-click action from "edit cell" to "expand/collapse" item.
When I double-click items now, sometimes it enters edit mode and sometimes it expands the outline.
Whatever it does, it does consistently. Items that expand, always expand; items that enter edit mode, always enter edit mode. Two items can be next to each other in the outline and have opposite effects for the double-click.
I can't figure out anything that would affect why it does one or the other.

Hi Wayne, When I try it…
Hi Wayne,
1) Confirmed for the dozen…
1) Confirmed for the dozen cases I tried. It also enters edit if there ARE sub-items, most of the time but not always.
2) Single-click is set to Select.
OK, I was not able to…
OK, I was not able to reproduce it, but I have an idea of the cause. I'll issue an update
Now, what should be the action if there are no sub-items. If double-click is set to Expand/Collapse, should nothing happen or are you happy with the current fallback action of Edit?
Going to edit is fine.
Going to edit is fine.
Not to bring up a side issue…
Not to bring up a side issue (as I bring up a side issue), but the reason i switched to this option is that i was increasingly having trouble using the buttons to expand/collapse. The "hit area" seemed to be shrinking and I was increasingly missing the mark. I'm sure it has nothing to do with me getting older.
I'm not asking for a change at all, but if you happen to look in that area, you might consider expanding the hit area a bit. I know it can't be too big or you'll be expanding the outline when you only want to select the cell.

The "hit area" seemed to be…
AFAIK, nothing has been changed w.r.t. the expand hit area in ages, years... Can you confirm that previous versions had a larger hit area?

It was a joke. Of course, I can't confirm the hit area has gotten smaller. And, of course, as I said, it's probably because I'm getting older. I just started noticing that I often had to click the button 2-3 times to get the outline to expand. Once I started noticing it, it got annoying to constantly have to re-do the clicks to get them to work.
It was just something for you to consider, if you choose. I don't know how to express this more clearly. If you think it's fine, it's fine.

Thank you, as always, for the time you put in making these quick updates. I just installed it. The problem appears fixed.

Minor follow up: it started doing it again. 100% of new items in my grid started going to edit on double-click instead of expanding. But all the old items worked correctly.
Found solution = refresh grid. I don't know if this played a role in my previous problems but it seems to have solved the current one.

Update: it stops working after working in a grid for a few minutes, no matter how many times I refresh it. Oddly, when it stops working in one grid, it still works in other grids. It's only when I've used it for a short while in one grid that it stops working, and it does it every time I do that.

I had the same issue. Try changing "single click action" in options to "edit if over text" or "select". It worked for me.

I'm trying Pierre's fix right now and will stick with it because it might be useful for him to know if it worked. If the problem returns, I'll try your suggestion. Thanks.
