Pierre, Altho I have & can get info out of URp via the export / import process, I think there's something strange going on.
It looks to me like the data is exported (or imported) at certain levels but not at others even w recursive setting employed.
For example, I've been able to import grandchildren but not always children
I don't know about other levels.
Also what do you check off for export in UltraRecall?
Could you check this when you get a chance?

Thanks.
Jan

Comments

  • Do you have an example?
  • Can you supply an .oml file?
  • Is it systematic (i.e. is the same nodes that aren't imported)?
  • Can you try to import into an IQ grid with the import option "TLI only"?

  • At the moment I can't provide an example -- all very personal info
  • same as above
  • don't know how to answer this
  • yes w same result
However, here's some more info that may help

Parent (folder / Holder)
  child w data 1
  child w data 2
  child w data 3

The parent & child items are imported however the data in the children is not
The data in the children doc window is pasted RTF from a different program

Normal URp data in children seems to import w/o problems.

Are some items missing or is it only HTML content of some items missing ?

Only 1 type of URp content is imported, which is RTF content (embedded, linked files are not imported)

items are ok
only HTML content of some items are missing
but
URp has two formats for doc window as I recall:
1. txt
2. rtf or document

Maybe that's the difference

OK, we're getting closer to a solution.

If you look at the oml file, search for the <outline> section of an item where the text was not imported. Could you report back the <outline>...</outline> section (deleting personal stuff if needed)?

I'm not sure that there is an 'outline' section which may be the problem.

<oml version='1'>

        <outline created='Tue, 13 Mar 2007 14:35:10 UT' modified='Wed, 7 Nov 2007 00:47:07 UT' text='2006 Journals'>

            <outline created='Tue, 13 Mar 2007 14:10:00 UT' modified='Tue, 22 Sep 2009 17:37:46 UT' text='Jan 06'>

Jan 06

DATA REMOVED

</outline></outline></outline>

</oml>

Edited 09/22/09 05:13 pm: added an entire file for you to work with
Edited 09/22/09 05:25 pm: besides the OML file, the data content is also placed in a separate folder. I don't know what that means but thought I'd pass it on.

The "Dreams of My Father" item RTF content is stored in file library_StoredContent\Dreams of my Father.rtf

Can you:
  1. Confirm that this file exists
  2. Open it and confirm it has the correct content
  3. If you answer yes to the above 2 questions, Send it privately to me

Let's compare settings.

In URp, focus on 'Library'
File > Import > Items to an XML (OML) file
Click Next
Check All
Next
Name file library2 + ".oml"
Export child items (recursive)

In IQ
Created new Grid "Grid 1"
Switched to "Grid 1"
File > Import OPML/OML file
browse to library2.oml
focus on library2.oml
click open
Import options
Add all items to grid = grid1
Adid all items to fields = Grid,Inbox
Click Import
Library created
  2007 books created
  2008 books created
  Books to Buy created

updated w new information 09/25/09 10:25 am

Pierre, I solved this problem by doing the following:
originally, the URp Library structure looked liked this:

Library
   2007
      book title + data

I changed the URp structure to look like this:

Library
2007
   book title + data

Focusing on 2007 imported all the data correctly.
Maybe the import function only works to one level presently.

Updated w Question 09/25/09 11:37 am
Pierre, In the URp Library example, there is other information, i.e. attributes which I guess IQ would call fields attached
In the case of Library, each item has attributes: author, book category, book subcategory, # of pages, format , Book Note
Not being able to import these, i.e. have IQ create fields with the same names cripples the imported information. Can you do anything about that?
Thanks.

Updated w successful import 09/25/09 11:57 am
I went into URp & reconstituted the grandparent Library & moved the 2007 & 2008 children under it along w the grandchildren.
This imported correctly. ????? Other than that, I didn't do anything differently than before.
That only leaves the other attributes -> field conversion question remaining.

Winding back indentation...
That only leaves the other attributes -> field conversion question remaining.
Latest build (0.9.24G4, soon to become version 0.9.24H) now imports attributes of type:
  • Text
  • Number
i.e. Date attributes are not yet imported

I'll eventually add a field mapping UI (as in Delimited Text files (Excel, Access, Outlook, etc.)),
but for now, IQ field names must match URp attribute names.

Thanks Pierre.
From your post, I'm assuming that IQ will import attributes to fields of the same name in the current version. Or should I wait for H?
Sounds like the field mapping would service a lot of different kinds of data people & would be worthwhile investment of your time.

Latest build does it right now. Next step in URp import, is importing not only RTF content, but also when the content is a linked HTML file (as in the URp user manual)

wow !! I'm thinking maybe I should wait a while before importing any more data from URp otherwise I'm going to lose a lot of links, etc.

Pierre, not to appear greedy but only to schedule my own workflow: are you going to continue to work on URp import for Date, URL's etc at the present time or are you moving on to something else? I have a lot more data to import from URp but much of it revolves around dates & especially URL's which is why I'm asking the question. Many thanks.

Yes, URp import will be improved shortly... If you want to help, you can privately send an export of some items containing dates, URL's and any other info types you need.
