Flash comments

  • The working glossary under Set tree Column, has a test flash video here: -- link to nonexistent node ID 90 --
  • It's easy to do I found out, by just uploading the final .swf file after clicking the flash icon in the editor.
  • I'm not sure you can use this same uploaded file as also a comment to a forum question--does anyone know? .
  • What are thoughts on utilizing this--I'll probably move this out of the glossary and just link to it, but I thought showing this might help get creative juices going.
  • Are there any other Wink/Camtasia/Captivate, etc, users?

Get the Font Setting to Work?

Submitted by David_H on 2008/12/06 17:19
Tools/Options/Grids.  I set the font size to a larger size.  The new setting seems to take affect in some grids but not others.  I have experienced this on multiple computers with different databases.  I also notice that on the grids that keep defaulting to a smaller font size (the size I do not want), that the word "item" at the very top of the grid is also in small font.  All of these are grids I just created before changing the font size setting, they are not default grids that come with the program, so it's not like there should be any grid specific setting on the grid that is over-riding the setting under tools/options (assuming that such an over-ride feature even exists).

Thanks

Grids with spaces in names can't receive imports

Submitted by Anonymous on 2008/12/06 15:45
The identifier field autogenerated when a grid is created (e.g. the Welcome grid creates a Welcome on/off field) doesn't seem to be able to receive data when importing if the name has a space in it. If you try to set value of the identifier field to -1 during the import process, it remains unset, resulting in an orphan item.

If the identifier field name (and thus the name of the grid) has no spaces, then the import works as expected.

Thanks,
Mark

p.s.: Note that the example given in the documentation consists of creating a grid with a space in the name: "Shopping list".

program locks up

Submitted by jan_rifkinson on 2008/12/06 13:33
For some reason a test db became corrupt (most likely).  As a result the program got stuck "updating who status"; i.e. it never got out the process. Meanwhile I couldn't close the program normally, <ESC> wasn't an option. I removed & re-installed program & opened same db w same result.  Removed / re-installed program & opened a different db w/o problem.  This situation is a little scary for me imaging what if it had been a meaningful db that I could no longer access. Perhaps I could import it; didn't try that but seems to me that there should be some global override in the event this occurs again.

Project Management

Submitted by jan_rifkinson on 2008/12/06 09:15
The project is a construction project.
It has various elements to it, ex: front porch, cottage terrace, guest bathroom, etc
I hired a contractor, project manager

However, I want to keep my own track of how many men arrive, when they arrive, what they work on, etc.
I also need to keep track of material costs
The goal being I can eventually total up the # of man hours spent on a particular project
I will use this information to budget for futue projects

The project grid as it stands is really not geared for this as it is much less detailed than I want, i.e. it really has start end, etc on a single line translated in the Gnatt chart

Thanks for any advice, help suggestions, etc.

Forms vs Grids

Submitted by jan_rifkinson on 2008/12/06 09:10
I'm slow figuring out the purpose of forms vs grids.

To me a form is for data inputing to guarantee some control over the data entry format. I don't know how to use forms in the IQ context nor what the relationship is between forms & grids, i.e. how to use one to the other.  TIA

How do you import, really?

Update:

The problem appears to be the name I gave to the grocery list: Grocery List  (with a space in the name)

Apparently this creates the yes/no field "Grocery List". Sending a -1 to this field during the import does not set the field to the checked state, so it doesn't show up in Grocery List. I also had the "clever" idea of setting the default of "Grocery List" to -1, and then it got really weird. The field "Grocery List" then indeed was checked following import, but still not go into the Grocery List grid! Moreover, a field created with -1 as the default can be checked on/off, but will always behave as if "off".

The solution appears to be to give the name of the grid like "GroceryList". Then it imports as advertised.
