Bug or feature? File images specified with tree column

Submitted by Anonymous on 2008/12/11 14:03
Currently, the image file specified in the file fields  only appears  in the child  of  a tree column item (usually the Item field).

If you change the tree column, the image follows along. So you can't separate the image functionality from the tree functionality.

It might be useful to specify one field as the image display field.

How do I (can I?) show images using html tags in text fields?

I know the text lines can display images, because <img>pin</img> displays an icon of a pin. However, the usual syntax for html <img src=...> doesn't seem to do anything. Nor does <img>myimagename.jpg</img>.

The tree view column (e.g. Item) can view the file specified in the file fields if it is a child in the outline. But that's the only way that I've found so far to display anything other than icons. My usage, BTW, would be to display thumbnails of images, possibly as quick snapshots of what would have a full view down in the HTML box.

Thanks,
Mark

InfoQube has an option to open the last file on startup (Tools > Options > Program Settings > Modes)

While this is sometimes useful, at times it may not be desired. There are 2 ways to bypass this:
  1. Start the program with a /file command like argument. Typically, a batch file is used for this. Details to come
  2. Press and hold the Shift key while starting the program. Simple and effective

Side bar

I was looking at tool bars and after selecting customize, I click the last item and it disappeared.  Later I realized the verticle grid menu on the left , whatever you call it, was gone.   I cannot find a control for it anywhere.

Case: You want to better manage your personal finances
Solution: Use InfoQube to enter revenues and spendings. Use InfoQube or Excel to calculate balances and perform analysis

To manage your personal finances with InfoQube, 2 approaches are possible: Full InfoQube or hybrid InfoQube + Excel:

Either way :

Generating Invoices

Case: You need to generate invoices for your consulting activities (could as well be products with only minor differences)
Solution: Use InfoQube and the built-in Template Merge feature

In this tutorial, you'll lean how to:
  1. Use a grid and the Doc pane to enter the invoice data
  2. Create a template file to merge the invoice data
  3. Use the template file to generate the print-ready / email-ready personalized invoice

Step 1: Entering Data

The sample IQBase has a built-in grid to do this. It is quite easy to recreate if it was deleted or a blank IQBase was used:

Case: You are a consultant and have a handful of customers, and you get paid by the hour. Your customers also may want detailed report of the work done
Solution: Use InfoQube to enter the work done, calculate total hours and provide detailed report.

In this grid:

Case: You have informal basketball games at lunch and want to keep track of the wins and losses of each player. You want to be able to quickly see which player(s) has better stats.
Solution: Use InfoQube and have each player enter their score after lunch.

In this example, we'll learn how to:
  • Create fields to store players and results, including pop-up text list, dates and number fields. Default field values, inheritance and equations will be used
  • Create a grid to add/view the game results
  • Create a pivot table to summarize the results and determine players with the best won ratios per month
  • Set it up to allow multi-user access

Boiler plate text to prepend (or apply) when creating (esp. drag/drop) new items

Submitted by Anonymous on 2008/12/09 12:44
I can give Item field a default, but what if I want some text to either prepend or (better) wrap around new text ?

What would I want this? Let's say I'm creating a list of websites. And I want each item to have the icon of a globe in front of it. Currently, I would have to go back and add a globe icon to the front of each item.

Likewise, I might want to wrap some hyperlink tag around each added item. For instance, if I wanted each item dropped to be in particular named font.

Thanks,
Mark
