Ecco Pro import problems

Submitted by Pierre_Admin on 2009/05/25 22:44
Some users have reported problems importing Ecco Pro files (such as structured blog and here on OutlinerSoftware)

All the available Ecco file import fine, so we need help from users to supply us with problematic files.

The problems is generally not with the content, but with the folders (generally, naming issues between Ecco and IQ)

So, anybody interested can send us their file (cleaned of any confidential data) and we'll be able to finalize that module.

With the (nearly completed) URp and OPML/OML import, getting data into IQ will be much easier

structured blog

My most adventurous use of InfoQube will be at work.  There I currently have a blog of sorts -- a file opened by a text editor.  There I paste memos to myself about how things are done, and opinions to myself about why things work or don't, and how to improve things.

I also do a lot of data analysis at work, and numerical experiments.  There are always side issues to record here, not just results.  Experiments need all the feeds to them documented, precise versions, source code, etc. That's being done in the blog, in email, in R workspaces, in R history files, and on a Wiki. It's really kind of inconvenient.

So, in addition to using IQ out for GTD-type scheduling and such, I'll be applying it to these problems.

Quick Right Click Access to Collapse All/Expand All

That would save me a ton of time.  Right now you can do it for an item, but not for thr grid.

Equally as important, I personally find the 32 or so icons that appear when right clicking to be a murderous user interface :), I know you are trying to find a way to fit a lot in a little space, but the end result is that it is for me unusuable.  I can right click in Firefox or any other number of programs and in less than 1 seconds make my selection from 25 or so easy to read text based selections.  In IQ I avoid right clicking altogether because it means I have to spend 10 seconds hovering over a bunch of little icons trying to figure out what each one does.  BTW, if you go to text based selections for right click, you can still quite nicely separate them into groups with horizontal lines to give them meaning.

Thanks

Thunderbird Extension - Not Working Here

Submitted by J-Mac on 2009/05/24 03:10
I just installed the latest update - 09.24 Build 2009-05-24 0h10 (Portable) - and then installed the Thunderbird clipper. (No need to uninstall previous clipper - this was the first installation of the T-Bird clipper for me). I have tried clipping a few messages from T-Bird. Just click on the IQ button, right? No sound, no visible indication that the clip was successful. No clipped email messages have appeared in IQ, and no *.sndb.Files added anywhere. Is there a step or two that I have missed? Does anything else need to be configured - in either Thiunderbird or IQ - prior to the clipper working?

Also I noticed a post where Jan mentioned that he is using the IQ-supplied Email grid. I had thought that the long-standing "Inbox" grid would be the natural place to "catch" the email messages clipped, just as web page clips are. Is there a separate "Email Grid" that I haven't found?

Version 0.9.24 is released!

Submitted by Pierre_Admin on 2009/05/24 00:42
Well, it has taken quite some time, but version 0.9.24 is finally released. Many important new features and bug fixes are included.

So much so, that it is expected that an update will follow in a few days, as users find new bugs introduced. So... while you can be assured that there are no critical bugs, users are encouraged to keep the previous version installed and install the new portable version in a different folder. So that, if a bug is really annoying, you can use the previous version and keep being productive with IQ. I know some of you depend on IQ, so I'll be ready to address all reported issues (if any).

Mantis list and documents all changes.

Another quick question:
On my work computer, when I click on IQ, it opens by itself. At home, however, another window appears, and I need to click OK to open IQ. Why is that? As far as I know I have same versions on both machines.
