The Item Editor

The Item Editor is an always accessible window to view / edit an item. This includes:
  • Item text (or item name)
  • Doc pane content (long-form content associated with each item)
  • Commonly used fields (Notes, URL, Inbox and Due Date)
  • Yes/No fields (i.e. folder-type fields)
  • Tags

The item information is available in other UIs, such as grids, and panes. For example, the Document pane shows the rich text content, and tags can be shown in grid and in the Tags pane. However:
  • The Item Editor is the only UI that combines all these in a single window
  • Many Item Editor can be opened at once, hence providing an elegant way to have multiple Doc / Properties / Tags panes

Group Columns Issue

Submitted by WayneK on 2019/01/27 15:39
1) Select two or more adjacent columns
2) Column>Header>"Group Columns"
3) In many cases, the Group Columns command is grayed out and can't be applied.  In other column selections, it's there and works correctly.

So far, it's just one grid that's doing this and it started after I did an "ungroup all" command (no idea if it's unrelated).

Edit: I'll leave this here since it might be a reproducible bug but when I rebooted InfoQube, it cleared up.

Item Created Date Wrong

Submitted by WayneK on 2019/01/27 11:03
I've been relying on the ItemCreated to automatically track dates in my logs.  I just found an instance where the recorded info is wrong.

The item was created 12/8/18 but ItemCreated shows today's date.  (I know the correct date because in this case I put it in the text of the item when I created it).

What would cause the ItemCreated field to change to today's date?

Suggestions: the item tooltip (ctrl>mouse hover) displays the modified date for items.  Would be nice if it also showed the created date.  I use this much more often and there's plenty of room in the pop-up box.
Even better would be to make it configurable.

Column Set Suggestions

Submitted by WayneK on 2019/01/22 19:52
My ideas for improving the very useful "column sets" feature.  All these are aimed at making loaded column sets match the original saved set without having to do manual adjustments after loading.

1) Save hidden status of columns (newly-loaded column set has same hidden columns as original set - right now all loaded columns are unhidden)
2) Save column groups (newly-loaded set has same column grips - right now column groups are lost)
3) Save order of columns (right now they come up in the same order, except the items column is always farthest left even if it isn't in the saved set)

Clone / replicate items

Submitted by LeftEccoForIQ on 2019/01/22 11:54
Using the various copy / paste special options, I'm still struggling to find a way of creating a replica of a parent item and its subitems in the same or another grid that is completely independent of the 'mother' item.

Say I have a couple of checklists in one grid, e.g. for packing stuff I need while travelling and chores I need to complete before leaving.

What I used to do in Ecco is to copy these branches from one notepad to my action notepad and first just delete all the items that are irrelevant for this particular trip, then later delete the items that I have completed (rather than mark them done or something - as I don't need to document that I've packed my razor etc.).

Whatever I do, either the items copied to the action grid are still identified as the original items and I have to be careful to only erase them from the action grid or the mother checklist will become incomplete.

Filtering subitems

Submitted by WayneK on 2019/01/19 12:13
Grid>Column filter>check "Filter items at any level"
Grid>Column filter>check "Filter out sub-items"

Above settings do not filter sub-items unless the sub-items have been expanded into view.  Tested this many times with same result.

Example:
1) Ran column filter for "unchecked" items
2) Expanded TLI and found that checked subitems were still there.
3) Hit screen refresh and the checked subitems disappeared, as they should have done in the first place.
Conclusion: filter works only when subitems have been expanded.

Doesn't seem like filters should depend on the outline display status.  If it does, this should be explained in the manual.
I can show this step by step if necessary but the forum requirements for loading images are a pain.
