Problem using F7 and F8

Submitted by DavidF on 2020/07/08 17:09
hi,

I've been away from IQ for a few years, and have now come back to take another look. Would have liked my first post on returning to not be a bug report (at least I think it's a bug) but there you go...

The problem is with navigation. I like using F7 and F8 to navigate between items while keeping focus in the Document Pane. However, when you add a new Document Pane, F7 and F8 no longer work in that way - that is, if you have focus in one of the Document Panes, they don't do anything. If you put focus back to the Grid, F7/F8 work once more. Although I've had occasions when they've stopped working even with focus in the Grid  - always in connection with having created a new Document Pane. In that case, I only solved the problem by going back to just one Document Pane and closing and reopening IQ.

Move between items in edit mode

Suggestion:  Allow movement between items without exiting edit mode (using up/down arrows).

I might have made this suggestion before but I find this so useful in another program that I can't help but wish I could do it InfoQube.

In XYplorer, when you enter edit mode to change a file title, you can move to the next file name without exiting edit mode.

Just now I wanted to append the same word to 10 files.  I copied the word, entered it at the end of the first file name, then hit down arrow/ctrl-v 9 times in rapid succession and it was done in seconds.  So much easier than exiting and re-entering edit mode over and over.

Even if it's not a case of repetitive pasting, just being able to stay in edit mode when you are cleaning up text would be help

How to combine two grids under a new one using a common field to both?

Submitted by Alp on 2020/07/04 09:29
Hi,

I'd like to combine two grids with a common field under a new grid that self-populates all items without any need for my interaction. My "grid: fields" are

stores: item (holding storeid), storenames, city
employees: item (holding employeeid), storeid, employeenames

I can transfer storenames and city fields from stores grid into employees grid through the following SQL query under a new field 'storecode': "Select Item as storecode, storenames, city from stores". However, this way, I need to select store names for every employee one by one myself. With hundreds of employees, this is not feasible.

Is there a way that I can combine fields of these two grids under a third grid making use of their common field, i.e., storeid, without my interaction for each item?

Thanks,
Alp

Can I use an SQL query to generate a list of "what links here" (backlinks)?

Background: In recent years, I was mostly on a Mac and mostly used Tinderbox. Over the last year, I've been on a PC and was using the new Roam Research app. However, it just wasn't powerful enough, and I am now very much enjoying getting back into the wonderfully powerful InfoQube, which has come a long way!

How do I filter using the manage grid filter?

Submitted by jelphd on 2020/07/01 13:01
Hi,

As a newbie to InfoQube, I'm still grappling with all the great functionality and how to use it. Normally, when I'm lost, I read the manual and search on the forum. However, I've run into a filtering issue and can't find the solution.

I've created a grid for imported emails. I plan to process the information in the email and add it to my slip box (I'm also new to the slip box so there's been a lot of trial and error). Once I've processed the email, I will check the "Processed?" field to indicate that the information in the email has been processed. I want to filter out the emails that have been processed. When I use the column filter drop down and select blank, the filtering works. However, when I use the filtering cell in the Manage Grid properties the processed emails still show.
