import of tab-indented text

Submitted by jimspoon on 2025/05/12 23:18

I just successfully imported the attached tab-indented text file, 1427 lines (all paragraphs were one line each).  Just a few notes.

(1) For some reason, IQ puts some of the last lines from the text file at the top of the grid.  I have to move them down manually.

(2) One the first attempt there was still an "importing" message at the bottom.  I thought maybe the import wasn't complete, but it was.

(3) The completion message wasn't persistent, would be good to be sure that the import was successfully completed.

Quicker refiling options

Hi Pierre,

Have been thinking about my IQ workflow and this has come to mind: IQ should have more readily available options for quick refiling of items both between and within grids.

Org Mode accomplishes this via the org-refile command:

When reviewing the captured data, you may want to refile or to copy some of the entries into a different list, for example into a project. Cutting, finding the right location, and then pasting the note is cumbersome. To simplify this process, you can use the following special command:

always have an ItemModified value, for sorting

It seems IQ items don't have an ItemModified value until they are actually modified after their initial creation.  (What a concept!  😆)  It makes sense but it does mean that if I sort items by the ItemModified value, newly created items without an ItemModified value won't be included and could be missed.  Same thing if you filter by ItemModified.  So would it make sense to assign an ItemModified value on creation, in addition to the ItemCreated value, for this reason?

hierarchical data import fails to import indented lines

Attached file sample.txt contains text.  Each line is tab-indented to the appropriate outline level.

Clicked File > Import > Hierarchical Data.  Loaded sample.txt.  IQ says "File type is: Tab Indented".

Under Import Options, selected 1.  "Add all items to grid: Main2".

Clicked Import button - only unindented items were imported.  No indented items were imported.

Also tried "Option 2. Add all items to field: main".  Clicked import again, only unindented items were imported, no indented items were imported.
