In item column I want to automate all TLIs to be bolded in a certain grid

However I want all sub-items to be in normal font unless user manually adds bold command, i.e. select + <CTRL>B

Can this be done?

If so, how?

From the wonderful help manual

In InfoQube, outline formatting is structured as a hierarchy. In increasing order of precedence, these are:

Overall default font: set in Tools>Options>General>View: Grid font and Grid font size settings
Grid specific font: set in Grid>Properties>Options: Default Font
Item font: Applies to the whole item or to specific columns, as defined in Grid>Properties>Options: Item Font applies to field
In-cell format: Applied to text selections inside cells only
Conditional formats are discussed here: 3.2.30 Item Coloring (node 219)

I don't think the "hierarchy" referred to in the help section is the same as the hierarchy in a grid. Actually the help reference can be misleading because in IQ-speak, hierarchy is something quite specific.The help section is referring to precedence of commands. I think you are looking for outline style as they exist in Ecco. Pierre said they would come to IQ, but not yet.

Your quote is a bit confusing, but it means that: hmmm . . . that the aplication of formatting works in that order - I presume that the first example of formatting has precedence over the next and so on.

That could certainly be phrased more articulately than I've phrased it :)

I wonder if it's possible thru conditional formats.

I'm not very conversant-- make that, I'm not (as in zero, zilch) conversant with formulas, etc & don't know if there's a way to identify a sub-item as such.

Do either of you know or have any ideas along those lines?

You could certainly achieve some outline formatting but you'll run into complications eventually. As Jon pointed out, Pierre said "outline style" were on the road map, fairly soon actually... So I'd wait for that. He might chime in and tell us when he thinks he'll implement it.

Outline styles would be a great addition, for sure.

Thanks, Armando. Given your collective & extensive experience (you, Tom & Jon), I think I'll take your advice & wait until outline level formatting is a reality. I can foresee some problems moving items between different levels. Thanks everyone.
