Windows XP Home Edition, Service pack 2
Dell Vostro 1500, Ram:3gb, CPU:Core2Duo T7500 2.2ghz

Hyperlink improvements  ( from discussion in automatically recognizing URL ore email addy in item cell )
  • New: Remove hyperlink (Shift+Click on the Hyperlink icon will also do a Remove hyperlink)
  • New: Automatically select the text around the cursor when creating and modifying a hyperlink
  • If cursor is in a URL string, Ctrl+k will convert it to a hyperlink
Sorry to say, this doesn't seem to be working here.

Inserting an e-mail address in an item cell such as
This Is a test item to send to janrif@gmail.com

If I left click 2x on the e-mail address IQ does create a new e-mail item as one would expect. Excellent
However, if I select the text "janrif@gmail.com" & <CTRL>+K to create a visible link IQ produces the following:
test item to send to<a href='janrif@gmail.com'>janrif@gmail.com</a>m

The same is true for URL address in item cell

I don't understand how this works New: Automatically select the text around the cursor..... etc

There might be some necessary fine tuning.

case 1- If I completely select an e-mail address, pressing ctrl+K won't have the expected effect (try it).
case 2- If there are some carriage returns or line feeds near the e-mail, it doesn't work well either.

However, if I just put my cursor (no selection) on an e-mail address and press ctrl+k, the e-mail address is transformed into a hyperlink -- it works.
If I then click on the hyperlink, it opens an e-mail window with the e-mail address text box pre-filled and I can start typing.

Thanks, Armando & Pierre.

When you get a chance, create an item that has an e-mail address with the text such as
I need to send Jan an e-mail @ janrif@gmail.com
clicking on the link created, creates a new e-mail with that entire line as the "To" address

When I do that here & test it either the way you describe in your post -- the line starting with "However, if I"
I get the following
<a href='I need to send Jan an e-mail @ janrif@gmail.com'>I need to send Jan an e-mail @ janrif@gmail.com</a>

This is also true if I try what Pierre describes as automatically select
I get the following
<a href='I need to send Jan an e-mail @ janrif@gmail.com'>I need to send Jan an e-mail @ janrif@gmail.com</a>

OK, this is fixed in v0.9.25W: When a text field is selected (i.e. not in edit mode), and contains text and an email, it will correctly find just the email and create the hyperlink

Hi jan,

I'll test it further for email addresses. Some tests were only made with web URLs.

re: automatically select: isn't self explanatory ? No need to select the text and then hit Ctrl+K. IQ will select the current word (i.e. where the cursor is) for you (as do many other editors...).

I've issued an interim version, v0.9.25V1, which contains all changes fixed in v0.9.25W

I've got a few more things to do to close v0.9.25W, including Clipper enhancements to support more than 1 IQ instance (and allow user selection of which instance should the clip go to)

I've noticed that it takes very long to turn HOIST off.

Hi Jay,

Can you give the steps to reproduce the issue, using the sample IQBase ?

It turned out that a few things claimed to be fixed by v0.9.25V1 were not

So I've issued v0.9.25V2

Hyperlink improvements  ( from discussion in automatically recognizing URL ore email addy in item cell )
  • New: Remove hyperlink (Shift+Click on the Hyperlink icon will also do a Remove hyperlink)
  • New: Automatically select the text around the cursor when creating and modifying a hyperlink
  • If cursor is in a URL string, Ctrl+k will convert it to a hyperlink
v9.25v2. the above is still not working right. It's better but not right.

Email
<CTRL>K converts an email address within item cell to a link & adds underline correctly
<SHFT>Left Click does not remove link here; it opens a new email msg window instead

URL
<CTRL>K opens linking dialogue for an item that contains a link as in http://www.bogartsdaddy.com
<SHFT> Left click does the same as above
<CTRL>K operates correctly ONLY IF user is in EDIT MODE

Version 0.9.25V3 is now online

Hope it will be better

I had to return to a previous version of the grid control, the current one available from the supplier is too buggy. If prompted, overwrite previous versions or start with a fresh install or copy your \Users folder to the new installation

9.25v3
  • The only think that works for me is <CTRL>K for email address. IQ recognizes & correctly identifies an email address
  • I don't know what "automatically select the text around the cursor....etc. Someone will have to explain so I can test it.
  • IQ does NOT recognize a URL with <CTRL>K
  • IQ does NOT un-recognize or remove link for email with <SHFT>Left Click
  • IQ does NOT un-recognize or remove link for URL with <SHFT>Left Click

Hi Jan,
(please use numbered bullets as they are easier to reference)

Item 1 works in edit mode and non-edit mode
Items 2-5, work while in edit mode.
I'll fix the #3 when not in edit mode
#4 and 5 work in edit mode. I'm not sure if I'll enable it while not in edit mode, I'll let users decide...
