Previous release notes said there is now a "paste special" option that allows you to paste the Excel format in the HTML pane.  I'm not seeing that as an option when I copy/paste a section of spreadsheet.  I do see a CSV option but when I use that, there's a substantial loss in formatting.  Has anyone else been using this?

OK, will try again with more explanation to see if someone can explain what's going on.

Rel63 says: "New: HTML Pane: Improved clipboard handling. Paste now handles Excel, CSV, HTML and RTF formats"

When I copy part of a spreadsheet and use "paste special", I do not see an Excel option.  I see only this:

If I used paste special and select "CSV", I get this:

Here's what I get with just plain "paste".  Note that it's identical to "paste special>CSV".

Here's a paste of the spreadsheet using a screen capture:

Is there an Excel option I'm missing?  I use spreadsheets a lot and would love to better incorporate them into InfoQube.  I'm trying to understand what this new capability is and what it can be used for.

It creates a table in InfoQube with "live numbers" that can be revised.  But all the Excel formatting and formulas are lost.  You can re-create the formatting inside HTML, but why go to that trouble?  Since it's a "dead" spreadsheet inside InfoQube anyway, why not just do an image capture (last example) so you see all the formatting of the original spreadsheet?

What am I missing about this new capability?

Also was unable to open an XLS file in the HTML pane.  It opens the file in Excel instead.

Hi Wayne,

What is new for Excel clippings is the HTML and CSV formats. It pastes the content as a static table. The RTF was working but when I try it now, I get a blank table.

I can also open the Excel file in the HTML pane to view and edit. Can IE open Excel files on your PC ? Perhaps a setting somewhere...

That's pretty much all I could see as far as Excel -> IQ links. What would you like to be able to do with Excel files inside IQ ?

p.s. You've tried the opposite side of the link ? IQ -> Excel through .odc files. See 7. Live Links to IQ Grids from Word and Excel Cool...

Pierre,

I'll check those out.  I just saw that you had added new Excel capability for the HTML pane and was trying to figure it out so I could decide if it was something I could use.

It'd be nice if you could open an Excel spreadsheet in the HTML pane the same as a PDF.  It sounds like I should be able to do that so I'll follow up.

re: Excel in IQ HTML pane
It can work, if set up correctly, but I'm not sure it is worth it. Plus you don't have most menus, only context menus commands.
I prefer to put a hyperlink in the item text and click it to open that file in Excel.
