Edit in red: OK, so I just found a thread that confirms that I should be able to open two instances with separate windows.  In my case however I cannot.  I'm not getting any error message as mentioned here....

....it just doesn't seem to actually open a second instance.  Is this a known bug?  OS is Windows 7 64-bit.

I know how to have the same grid open in two vertical/horizontal tabs at the same time, but is there a way to have grids from the same database open in two windows at the same time, so that two html panes could be viewable simultaneously?  I should mention that I am using the term "windows" as it's used in most modern day browsers, as I notice that IQ uses the verbiage "new window" for what I would call a new grid tab, albeit one that can be viewed separately in a vertical or horizontal tab group.

I've tried File > Open and then selecting the same database, that prompts a warning that there is already an instance of the database open and "are you sure", and if you proceed it appears to just open the new instance and close the other - or at least I still only see one window.  For some reason I thought for sure that I've been able to do it and that in a past discussion Pierre said that multiple instances could be open at the same time, but when I try the above I never see more than one window.

Thanks

If you start a new instance of IQ, you can open the same file, otherwise it toggles between opened files

Note that this may not be necessary, depending on what you want. You can have multiple grids open and multiple HTML panes open too, some floating, some docked. These can be locked on specific items. Panes not locked will be used in sequence as you browse items.

Is this documented somewhere?  I see how to drag an HTML pane into a new window, but not how to get a second one open (without opening a second instance of IQ).

Shift-click on the View > HTML Editor

As soon as I get v63 out, I'll update the HTML pane doc.

Pierre, I used to used this a lot to open the HTML pane in its own window, which would allow me to center it on my display and more easily focus on what I am working on, but it was broken after one of the recent updates.  Is there a new shortcut for this?

Thanks

Pierre, is there any way to improve the behavior of opening an HTML pane in a new window?  I do this constantly and currently, unless there is a better way I don't know about, it's very laborious (and the keyboard shortcut no longer works).  Currently I have to:

1. Go to View > HTML Pane > New HTML Editor

2. Now it always opens in a very small window, so I have to grab it and expand it horizontally and then vertically.

IMO there should be a very quick way to be able to open AND maximize.  OR just have it remember the last position and open at whatever that was so it does not have to be adjusted every time.

Thanks!

p.s. My use case is I have HTML panes that I work with a lot that have a lot of tables and I can only see all of them if the pane spans the screen.  So I either have to endlessly be resizing the pane relative to the grid, OR just open the HTML pane in a new window, which is much easier.  So that's my use case and why I'd like a way to quickly open a pane and maximize it.

I'll fix it next week, promised !

In the meantime, from what you describe, would using an external editor work better for you ? Either Word, Blocknote or the excellent WizHtmlEditor.
(the last 2 are freeware)

Maybe ....except the HTML toolbar commands such as "edit in MS word" are no longer there, and when I attempt to add them back, as soon as I click "closed" on the customize toolbar option, they disappear.  I am able to customize my grid toolbars just fine, just not the HTML ones.

These commands only show for MHT documents
So I would recommend to convert some of your embedded HTML content to MHT. To do so, simply click on the New MHT Document button. A dialog will show. Select Convert ...
