I know you won't be able to reproduce this but I'll report it in case it might be helpful in some way.
I've had this happen several times recently, and again just now:
1) Program instantly "turns off". There's no freeze-up. It just disappears.
2) When I re-open the file:
a) Columns have been lost from the open grid.
b) Outline has been collapsed to one level in the open grid.
I haven't noticed any items lost so far.

Hi Wayne,
Crashes are never fun and hopefully rare. A few questions:

1) I've seen it in Pre13 and Pre21 (my only two recent versions). Older crashes were usually of the perpertual-buffering and white-out varieties
2) No clue
3) It was an old grid with definitely saved columns. It did not recover the old columns on restart. I loaded them manually.
4) I don't use other UI's
5) Besides the main view, I have the properties, tags, and a home grid open in a side panel. I did have a View Pane open with the grid, I think.
6) No

Just noticed it also wiped out all my view panes. These have to be set up for each tab individually (unlike a new tab group).

What do you mean with "view panes" ? Point to the doc page or provide a screenshot
Right click tab>Copy view…
Right click tab>Copy view>Paste view>Paste the grid as pane.
I couldn't find a name in the user manual so I adopted "view pane", which I've used in several previous posts.
