First off, a big thanks to Pierre for his work on the new pre-release and all his nice feedback on the forums, and to all the other users here who have been very constructive and positive .

Since I've made quite a few posts over the past couple of weeks while trying to get started with IQ, I thought it would be a good idea to post a summary of what issues I've commented on that still appear to be outstanding in the latest release.

Still a very important thing missing for new users here, I have a feeling it should be possible to automagically generate it from the online version as an easy solution until IQ stabilizes so much that it's worth doing serious work on it.

There just has to be something easily accessible from the help menu that will get a new user going imho.

2.1 This has improved a LOT. There are still a few things that appear a bit odd, for instance when in week view, the up arrows on day and month both go to the first day of the week (Monday), but the down arrows go to the last day (Sunday). This may be intentional, but it doesn't seem immediately logical to me.

2.2 When selecting a date with the date picker in week view, it appears more or less random if you get the first or last day of the week.

It still should have an icon and be put on the main toolbar imho.

4.1 The WYSIWYG print preview dialog still doesn't remember it's size here, it always opens at 18%.

4.2 Maybe next/prev page navigation buttons at the top?

4.3 Whether the settings/print and use of dialogs is intuitive I still don't know.

Could still be useful for highlighting stuff in a clipped article imho.

As Pierre says some rethinking may be required here, at any rate New Grid and Manage Grids are still hidden in a sub-menu of the View menu.

Still the same behavior here, if I save an IQbase in My Documents and close IQ and reopen it, the HTML Editor becomes effectively "read-only". All other folders I tried work fine.

Love the way the buttons work now.

8.1 When you close the bar by selecting "Views..." from the context menu, that entry still mysteriously disappears and you have to drag the sub-menu from the View menu out and fiddle it back into place, any new user would be lost here I feel.

8.2 Would be nice if there were a more obvious way to select if a grid should be shown on the bar (maybe context-menu for the grids on the grids menu?).

8.3 It is now possible to drag the Grids menu onto the bar! .. but alas, it shows "OtherViewsList" instead of the list of grids and disappears after restarting IQ.

You still cannot drag fields around, only grids.

Comments

Jibz
any chance you could number that list for easier commenting / response?

Thanks, Tom

Good idea!

I've added numbers and sub-numbers where it felt applicable.

8.1 is in Mantis:
Close 'Views' toolbar - it then disappears from toolbar context menu & from Customise>>Toolbars

8.2 love the context menu idea! (add to Mantis? - have you registered at Mantis for IQ Jibz?)

8.3 [ see edit below ] I dont really understand how this could work - I mean how would you like that to work - the 'Grids bar' is the same as the grids list just displayed differently (isnt it?)
 . . .
EDIT/ I misread grids menu as grids list but I'm still confused as to how you would picture that working (was it something mentioned by Pierre) ?

No, I am relying on more knowledgeable people submitting whatever of my stream of ramblings is deemed useful enough to be entered there .

Ah! I mistakenly thought the grids menu (the one you get from Views->Grids or the Grids button on the main toolbar) always showed the full list of grids, and that the "Show in toolbar" option in the Grid Manager only toggled if it was shown on the "grids bar".

My idea was that I could toggle my favorite grids to be shown on the grids bar, and then add a button for the grids menu to be able to access the rest.

Hi Jibz,

Thanks for sharing the list.

If a suggestion/bug report of yours got feedback etc. and was accepted/confirmed, IMO the best way to keep it in the loop (to insure it won't be forgotten) is to yourself put it in mantis.

- What I generally do is wait a bit, and  after a few positive comments or confirmations, I'll just put it in Mantis.

- Sometimes, when there's obviously something wrong and it's easily reproduceable, even if nobody gives feedback I'll put it in Mantis.

But... Yes, it can be time consuming, so it's really up to you.

Perhaps but not as time consuming as fixing the problem(s)

I can put stuff in mantis for you, that's no problem, but (if you haven't,  already), read this thread, and get the sync to mantis setup.

It's a great reference file to have on hand, and a great way to look at past/present/future issues and resolutions.

I just tested the date toolbar and got almost the same problems jibz describe. And so I added a note to Mantis 0965

>2.1  [...] when in week view, the up arrows on day and month both go to the first day of the week (Monday), but the down arrows go to the last day (Sunday). This may be intentional, but it doesn't seem immediately logical to me.

I don't get exactly the same result here (something similar nevertheless...). Whether I go up or down with the date toolbar arrows, the dates will go to the next/previous Sunday or Monday, arbitrarily it seems : it'll skip a day sometimes and go from a Sunday to a Monday, or the contrary. (It doesn't happen all the time, but it does)

>2.2 When selecting a date with the date picker in week view, it appears more or less random if you get the first or last day of the week.

I tested this and got exactly the same results.

So what's left from this list ?

There are mantis issues for these with added notes from myself. A few other mantis issues related to the date toolbars were added too.

There's a Mantis entry ( as tom said earlier) : Mantis 970 - mantis.sqlnotes.net/view.php

Now in Mantis :
Update Issue0995 Manage grids dialog : Drag & Drop fields to reposition/order them.  New featurefeature

Now in Mantis :
Update Issue0996 HTML Editing button could use an icon (*and* be included to the Standard Toolbar).  Modificationtweak

We haven't got much opinions there (see link)

As tom said, I think, this is possible to achieve from the the Manage Grids dialog.

But should the  "Grid toolbar" (toolbar wih grid names) be independent from the grid menu ? Maybe it should.

Opinions before I add anything to Mantis ?

8.3 It is now possible to drag the Grids menu onto the bar! .. but alas, it shows "OtherViewsList" instead of the list of grids and disappears after restarting IQ.

Jibz, could you confirm that this is still a problem so that I can add it to Mantis ?

I have lots of notes on printing etc. I don't know where to start exactly. But I'll leave it for now. ...

Just to note:
all the links quoted by Armando in above post have corrupted: they are missing   /drupal5/   after   www.sqlnotes.net

e.g.
instead of

so if you add drupal5 appropriately they will work

That link shown is New Grid
the links are correct in the original post but somehow quoting them seems to have corrupted them (this happened before not sure why...)

7. HTML pane doesn't save content
I can't reproduce this, so... If anyone wants to add details.
I guess it might be a problem with my setup. Would be nice to know for sure, since your average new user might make his first IQbase in exactly that folder.

8.3 It is now possible to drag the Grids menu onto the bar! .. but alas, it shows "OtherViewsList" instead of the list of grids and disappears after restarting IQ.
I think this was to a large extent due to me misunderstanding the (current) relationship between the grids menu and the grids bar.

Can I just add as a bonus note that I find this drupal editor highly annoying .. quotes seem to randomly break when you move stuff around .

>Can I just add as a bonus note that I find this drupal editor highly annoying .. quotes seem to randomly break when you move stuff around

Yes. I completely agree.
It took me 10min yesterday to have the quote function properly -- and I wasn't pasting from word or anything, just copy/paste from the quote in the editor.

Pierre : is that a known problem ?

I also have my cursor jumping to the top of the editor sometimes. But can't reproduce it.

I haven't seen this problem before. It is an add-on which processed the content for {quote} {/quote} tags (with [ instead of { brackets)

It these are properly formatted, it works...

I don't know what to say... It just doesn't work properly sometimes -- and it seems I'm not the only one. I put the  {quote} {/quote} tags and sometimes the quoted text is below the quote, or sometimes half of it is in the quote, etc.
I was going to look at the HTML code yesterday, but when I switched to the "plain text" editor, I found the code unreadable. Only today I remembered about the "source" option. I'll use that next time.
