I have a simple tab delimited file with 9 records. The file gets parsed fine as I can see it in the wizard. I map 2 fields only to 'item' and 'duedate'. The wizard tells me that 9 records are imported successfully. I go to the grid and show these 2 columns, but I see nothing even after refreshing it.
I reviewed the import docs and this forum to no avail.

Any ideas?

Thank you.

Do a Grid>Show Sourcebar (or hit Alt +S), and see if anything is showing there. If not, click the "all items" dropdown. That will change the source to everything, and should show your 9 items.

thanks. this worked fine. Why is it behaving this way, though? is it something I did wrong while importing even though, the wizard went perfectly fine for such a simple task if importing few records.

Try this. It looks like the manual pg 6.20 isn't clear on this: Actually the sample file underneath Outlook import,
may be clearer.  I'll try to make the manual clearer.

If you pick the grid you want to put your imported items into (in my screenshot, it is "InfoQube", which is the source for the "Welcome" grid in the sample file.  Once I did this, the test items I imported went into the Welcome grid.

By the way, if you haven't downloaded the .chm version from the "Home" page of the forum, please do so.
Hopefully you're starting with the File>New>New IQBase with sample data, (and not the blank one).

I'm currently improving this:

Users will be able to select where imported items will go:
  1. The current grid
  2. The in-box
  3. Nowhere specific

What does #3 "nowhere specific mean"?
Does it imply a drop down menu of some kind where user can point data to a specific grid?
Isn't the in-box, in fact, nowhere specific as it is the general catch-all for un-assigned items?

Nowhere specific would mean : no extra field is "assigned" to the items so that the item doesn't appear anywhere specific. But maybe Pierre has something else in his mind.

I guess I'm splitting hairs here because isn't everything actually assigned to a default grid which actually catches everything via [all items]
I like the idea. I just want to be sure that the dialog is simple & clear as to it's effect.
And like I asked, does that mean the user will have a drop down menu to assign/send an item to an existing grid?

I'll change the wording. I can see how this can be confusing. The import dialog is not modal, so one can switch to another grid before the final import step.

Thanks pierre. So just to clarify, does this mean that user will switch to a grid before import and assign to "current grid"?
or
Could this be handled w a drop down menu of all existing grids with the possibility to assign import to selected grid?

Hi cnewtone,

IQ's basic principle is that grids show what their various filters are set to show. These are defined in the source bar**.

What's a source ? It's the grid's main filter. See the "GRID" section in  Items, Values and Views

I'd venture to say that IQ does not have the folder metaphor at its core (1 item can only be in one folder). I guess you could say that IQ is a mix between the tagging philosophy and the ability to organize hierarchically.

** note that when a grid is created using the "New Grid" button, IQ creates a field based on the grid's name and uses that field as the source of the new grid. When you create a grid using the "manage Grid" dialog, you get to choose your source yourself.
