Hi IQ Users !

The current rage for Zettelkasten method and apps like RoamDynalist and Obsidian has prompted us to make a number of UI improvements.

Comments

Any chance you could stuff this in as well (Explorer-style cut and paste of items - on paste clearing the field for the grid they were cut from)?

Cheers!

Downloaded it but couldn't find the links pane if it's there yet. As for Cards View, I think I'd need some kind of introduction to figure it out. What sort of calendar improvements should we look for?

When editing in the grid, there now seems to be a horizontal scroll bar (a bug?) - this got in the way and drove me back to .115.

Sorry I couldn't offer any productive feedback...

Thanks. Missed the bit about your cycling trip - enjoy! (I used to run on-the-road support for cycling holidays in Scotland - quite crazy with all those hills but also insanely beautiful... May your experience be like that, too!)

When vertical tabs are used, the tab for a Card View is all black, i.e. nothing is visible on the tab.   When horizontal tabs are used, the tab appears as it should.

Hi Pierre,

Made the hyperjump from 0.9.111 to 0.9.116 this weekend and I've noticed a glitch with Calendar View:

When I edit a calendar entry, i.e. change the text, or change the time, or change duration, the item disappears from Calendar View.   My Calendar is linked to appointments so the item still shows in appointments, but it's gone forever from Calendar.   So then I recreate the item in Calendar, return later and make an edit change, and it disappears again.   So don't know what's up with that, but it's a bit disconcerting.

thanks

Hi Doug,

Quite the jump from v111 to v116... roughly 2 years of updates !!
  1. v112: Item Editor
  2. v113: Google Calendar sync
  3. v114: Related Items
  4. v115: Google Tasks sync
  5. v116: Card View
Thanks for the bug report. I issued v116a which fixes it

*** v116 had a fairly serious bug where moving an event in the Calendar would erase the event (the item was NOT deleted). Users then had to re-create the event. Fixed in v116a. All users should upgrade to v116a !!! ***

In v116a:
  • Fixed: Grid: On file / URL drag drop, no item was created if option was set to not show the UI
  • Fixed: Grid: Show UI on file / URL drag drop setting was not saved
  • Fixed: Grid: On file drag-drop, link text was not kept
Available as full package and as a patch

Slick . . . as . . a . . . whistle!

Thanks Pierre, no more disappearing items in Calendar after editing them, thanks for that.    Cards seems to function better in 116a too, although I'm still at the front end of that learning curve.   And grid lines are more subtle again too in 116a, more in keeping with what I was accustomed to, they were a bit harsh in 116.

I must say, version 116/116a is noticeably improved over v.111, noticeably faster, "smoother" feel to it, like driving a new car off the dealer's lot, an improved experience.

Congrats.   You might want to think about getting InfoQube into the marketplace one day . . . or didn't I mention that once before?

Take care, carry on.

Excellent Doug !

  1. For best grid performance, it is best to use only vertical lines and use alternating colors instead of horizontal grid lines. It is significant (it shouldn't be, I know, but it is)

Alternating row colors works ok unless you use fill colors to organize info.  Adjacent items with the same color run together.  The small extra space between them isn't enough to make them clearly stand apart.

I tried it with the horizontal lines off but had to go back and turn them on.  I haven't noticed a performance hit but if there is one, I will live with it unless it gets bad.

It is mostly when scrolling, such as holding the up/down arrows to scroll long lists.
It could be graphics card related. My PCs are all a bit old and have stock Intel HD

Hi Pierre,

Many thanks for the implementation of "Search and Replace".
It was an impressive pace of development!

a) Reporting a possible bug
After performing an operation through "Search and Replace" and clicking on it's window close [x] buttom, IQ is minimized as well.
If you just open "Search and Replace" but don't perform an actual operation, clicking on the close [x] button will not minimize IQ.

b) A couple of suggestions
- Assign an icon
- Make it available for easy access on the toolbar
- Assign a default shortcut. I customized mine as Ctrl+Alt+F

My points (a) and (b) are illustrated in this screencast: https://bit.ly/2FzqgzY

Cheers,
Carlos

Morning Pierre,

What is the process for installing the patch update?   Always when I click on the .exe file I get the error message "Cannot load language file. Aborting".    I've attempted the patch update both with InfoQube open and closed.   I use the Installer version not the Portable version.

Also, what's the advantage of using Portable version which is emphatically described as "Best Option" on the download page?

thanks

Hi Doug,

See InfoQube Program Install and Set-up on installing patches.

Regarding Portable vs Installable, the Portable is
  1. More isolated from the OS setup
  2. Relevant files are all under the same folder, not spread in a number of Windows protected / not protected folders
  3. Tested extensively, which the installable is much less so

Hi Pierre,

Is there a way to port my custom settings developed in Installable version to Portable version?   I.e., my formatted Grid settings (colors), Gantt settings, etc.    Or do I have to start all over with the customized formatting?

Reason I ask is because when I open my InfoQube file with Portable version, none of that formatting is applied to the various views.

thanks

Most settings are store in the file (IQBase). Some are in your user profile. Checkout this page: InfoQube Program Install and Set-up
Perhaps provide screenshots of before / after. That could help

Find and Replace: I'm very happy about this feature. It works well, and it's much better than the poor workaround I was using! The fact that it works in Live-Search is a big plus.

(Slowly looking at the other interesting features...)

Hi IQ Users !

In v116e:
  1. New: Grid: Adding a top-level item now automatically adds it to CardView (if the CardView is not empty)
  2. New: CardView: When detaching tab, floating pane size and position is restored
  3. New: Live-Search: When match is in the Item field, text and item cells are now merged to show more content (Show Details is ON)
  4. New: Doc pane / Item Editor: * prefix is now shown when content has changed
  5. Fixed: Card view: Card filtering could cause a program crash
  6. Fixed: Properties pane: Item Properties section was always expanded on startup. It now restores previous state
  7. Fixed: Manage Grids dialog: Click on the grid list header now correctly sorts the list in ascending order
  8. Fixed: On multi-monitor, app icon is now shown on the correct monitor taskbar
  9. Fixed: Floating panes: When switching between dual monitors to single monitor, floating panes could be positioned outside of the monitor, hence invisible. Now the pane is moved to ensure it is visible
HTH !

Hi IQ Users !

  2. New: Card View: Undo enabled after items are removed
  3. New: Card View: Support for Marked Items
  4. New: Card View: Option when pasting items to move existing items to the current quadrant
  5. New: Card View: Set card default size
  6. Fixed: Grid: Toggle Hoist On/Off was broken, did a Hoist Selected Items

Hi IQ Users !

In v116g:
  1. New: Grid: In dashboards: Right-click on pane > Pane Color command
  2. New: Omnibox: Entering a single character now list items starting with that character (favorites, views and commands)
  3. New: System Enhanced Scaling setting. Improves text and icon clarity when scaling is not set to 100%
  4. New: Workspace Tabs: Option to show close button (x) on each tab (instead of a floating red close button)
  5. New: Workspace Tabs: Option to show tabs as Classic (Excel) or Modern (Chrome)
  6. New: File > Recent file list: Now shows file name. File path is only shown when there are more than one entry for that file name. Tooltip displays full file name and path. Current file is shown in bold
  7. Fixed: Grid: Expand / Collapse could sometimes cause vertical scrolling
The System Enhanced Scaling setting greatly improves the text and icon quality. All what you need to do is to set your display scaling to 125% or above. Ensure you don't use the custom scaling option (i.e. 150% in custom scaling is NOT the same as using the 150% in the dropdown list of scaling options).

I normally work at a scaling of 100% (13.3in FHD LCD) because I have good eyes and want to see more content, but this is a game changer

Pierre,

Marvellous job on the anti-aliasing for scaled Windows!

The option for tab shape (modern / classic) only affects horizontal tabs. Intentional? (If so, maybe add info to that option.)

I couldn't revert to the old way of the hover-popup tab close button - the respective option ('close button on each tab') doesn't seems to have any effect.

Vertical scroll leap problem in connection with fold / unfold also appears to be fixed successfully.

Cheerio!

Aha, it seems the close button option requires a restart to become effective. With my settings, there is a graphical glitch with the close button that appears on hovering.

Hi IQ Users !

In v116h (probably the last of the v116 series)
  • New: Options dialog: Filter-as-you-type to help find settings
(plus quite a few minor fixes)

Much more obvious and user-friendly. Thanks!

Hi IQ Users !

In v116i:
  1. New: Grid: Auto-Search (Ctrl+F3) shown above the grid when ON
  2. New: Card View: When filtering, Remove command now offer option to remove only visible cards or only hidden cards
  3. New: Fields: In auto-assign equations, simpler syntax to set/unset tags. Details here
  4. Change: Grid: When item Home is shown as a column, the Home ID is no longer shown, just the Home name (now matches the Properties pane)
  5. Change: Vertical tabs: When set to auto-width, tabs now all have the same widths and set to 10% of the main IQ window width
  6. Fixed: Grid: Date Filter 2 day and 3 day filters did not work
  7. Fixed: Grid: When creating an item, the Item Home column is not updated (when shown)
  8. Fixed: Card View: Edit > Delete Item did not work
  9. Fixed: Tags pane: Using Alt+Arrow keys to move tags in the tags hierarchy did not refresh parent tags state (until pane was refreshed)
With exactly 100 items in v116 , we'll call it done and move onto v117

Thanks for the improvements!  I like the uniform width of vertical tabs very much, but it sure would be great to be able to size them by dragging the border between the vertical tabs and the grid.

This one is getting a little bit too longwinded in the tooth

Hi IQ Users !

My mother often said "never say never"... well v116i will not be the last of the v116 series.

In v116j:
  1. Fixed: Grid: Moving an item from one parent to another could sometimes keep both parents (if the original parent is not shown in the grid)
  2. Fixed: Gantt: Dragging a summary bar did not move sub-sub items
  3. Fixed: Card View: Removing the selected card still showed it as the focused item (Properties / Tags / Doc panes etc)
  4. Fixed: Card View: Card header height was fixed at 20px, now depends on the font size
  5. Fixed: Properties pane: Dynamic hyperlinks did not work (link target defined by a field)
  6. Fixed: Properties pane: Click on a hyperlink started editing
  7. Fixed: On startup, splash screen reported "Not Licensed" even when user had a valid license
Available right now as a patch.

Hi,

Thanks for fixing the splash screen bug. Not a major one, but it did have me worried for a while.

Which reminds me... I ignored the Outliner version for several months, fired it up last week and got a notification that it was expired and I had to download a new beta or buy a license. I'm not sure if the part about the license applies to the Outliner version?

Indeed, I need to update IQO. I'm pretty sure you can safely ignore the warning though.

I'm really happy with the search-as-you type boxes, and the saved column widths in the Field Management Dialog. Thank you!
