Auto-completion for 'cloning' and linking (M)

Armando has already discusses auto-complete for dropdown lists. Here's are two auto-completion features I would love to see:
  1. Auto-completion for 'cloning'. When entering text in a new item, I would like to be able to press ctrl-enter (or something like that) to bring up a list of all already existing items matching the string. Pressing enter on any item would create a 'clone' of that item (such that it would assign the item as a child of whatever item is parent to the place I am entering text).
    • Issues/questions
      • I'm imagining this as an efficient way of making an already-existing item into a child of another item. But I'm not sure what would happen when entering text at top-level.
      • What would happen when there are multiple items with the exact same text?

Duration field ~ WorkTime(StartDate, EndDate, 8) - (NonBillable) - some queries

I'm testing this in the sample database
Field: Duration.
Equation: WorkTime(StartDate, EndDate, 8) - (NonBillable)
 
1) first time using the EndDate field it show the december 1899 - naturally I presumed it was December 2010 and selected day and time. I did *not* have same problem in StartDate field.
I wonder could this be corrected Pierre ?
 
2) I notice that if a field needs to be modified, the duration field always remains the same.
Say I notice I added the wrong start time, if I change it the end time changes rather than the Duration field.
Likewise if I add a number to Non-Billable field - the end time changes rather than Duration
Is this by design?
 
 
 

Right click on parent in properties pane : context menu could offer to hoist in current grid. (M)

Right now, in the properties pane parents section (parent hierarchy), when you click on a parent that can't be shown in current grid, the scratch pane will open, which is fine. However, there are many situations where you'd just want to see it that item (and its subs) in the current grid.
 
"Right click on parent in properties pane : context menu could offer to hoist in current grid" would be a nice solution IMO.
 
(Of course, one can try to get there by hoisting up one level at a time... But this can take time if the hierarchy is deep, or would just be impossible depending on the hierarchical  structure.)
 
Opinions?

0.9.25 final release suggestion

Hi Pierre, 
 Is 0.9.26 on the horizon? There's been more pre-releases of 0.9.25 than I expected (though some of the minor interface improvements have been wonderful).
 
If it's pretty close, may I suggest that  the upcoming  0.9.25h be the proposed "stable" version, then tell the users to torture test it for a set period of time.
 
If no "showstoppers" appear, then proclaim it 0.9.25h stable, with the release 0.9.26 prerelease 1. (and maybe a rough eta).

 
 

 
 

 
 
 

 

Any way to auto-assign parents or children?

As far as I can tell, hierarchical relationships are 'read only' except when manually adding children to an item. But it would be cool if there were some way to create automatic hierarchical relationships, either be automatically assigning a certain parent to certain children, or visa versa (sort of along the lines of 'Agents' in Tinderbox, although that feature has a number of other shortcomings).
 
Does this make sense, and would there be any way to do it?

ODBC -- troubleshooting

Now that I've gotten over the initial hump of linking to an external database (via ODBC), I'm still having trouble tweaking the process (I figured I might as well start a new thread, because my initial question about ODBC was very vague).
 
Here's the issue: With the sample ODBC database ("SQLNotesIssuesTracking"), I did an experiment. I deleted all the entries in the sample database, then did a sync. But only the first record in the database (the issue titled "Outlook-style Calendar"), reappeared when I ran the sync.

I'm still amazed...

Yes, IQ needs some polish...
But I'm always amazed at the many different things I can do with it! :)
 
I mean... Today I used it to :
-  manage some projects,
- triage and prioritize some tasks
- Read, take notes and clip web pages,
- add details to some references (articles)
- write parts of a future theatrical event (set and text)
- Exporte some structured notes for a meeting at my daughter's school,
- And... Structure/organize pseudo-codes with some fairly new grids/fields/icons I just "designed"... These make this sometimes difficult task much more fun and clear.
 
Of course some of the new "features" (new shortcut keys, favorites, etc.) and especially bug fixes (stability) and item mouse selection etc. make a difference...

Trying to link to database via ODBC...[SOLVED]
