Equivalent to a "Lookup" Function?

Submitted by srv181 on 2009/02/08 10:52
Is there some way to populate the content of a popup list for a field with values from another grid?
Access has a function to do this (I believe it is called dblookup - or so).

I need to assign tasks to contacts. I know that one could use the parent/hierarchy functionality but that is too tedious - just too many steps to go through. It would be so much simpler to be able to populate the content of the popup with some field from another grid.

Is anyone doing something like this?

Thanks

The state of the documentation .SNDB 2-5-09

I grabbed all the current pages of the user manual, and put them into an IQbase for my purposes. I'm attaching it here, others might be interested.  It was done quickly with the web capture (which is REALLY nice, by the way).  Also I tried to make a new blog post for this, but couldn't figure out how to make an additional one.

I'm using it to ascertain the obvious gaps  in the material, as well as check if I missed any comments.  (Is anyone else overwhelmed at times with all the postings/comments on this site?).

I set it up in a nice hierarchical structure, which may be instructive to beginners, also.

It sure is nice having an "offline" manual here; this will be a taste of what the "finished" version will be like.

item color not displaying -- have to refresh

Submitted by Armando on 2009/02/03 23:39
I'm using user code to automatically assign colors to my items (allows me to use conditions based on strings, etc.). e.g. :

if (isnull(Urgency) and item = "Notes") or (Urgency < -10 and item = "Notes") then
    CalcColor="Pink"
  end if

etc.

"Pink" truly appears as the "itemColor" color, but, sometimes, unless I do a refresh, the color won't display in the grid.

Is that a bug? or am I omitting something ?

thanks

"Building Blocks"

Submitted by jsolka on 2009/02/03 12:03
I've just started using word 2007 and I realy love Building Blocks. It's a really user-friendly, veru useful (at least for me), and cool feature with nice UI. Maybe it's far-fetched, but it would be great to have something similar in IQ.

Why make a field "date" as opposed to "text" ?

Submitted by Tom on 2009/02/03 05:43
1) what is the advantage of having a date field for dates as opposed to a text field -
I use the format YYYY-MM-DD so it sorts correctly as text or date. To me the advantage of having a text field is that I can, say, add
"2009-04"  without giving a specific date - of course that may screw up the sort, I'm not sure
or
"2009-01-20ish"    (!)
both of which surprisingly sort okay.

2) I want to ask how to convert fields but gotta figure out to-what so I'll wait see the response to #1

Problems with links (to items)

Submitted by Tom on 2009/02/01 17:34
The problem is -
if I try and add a (url) link to an item, sometimes I click in item field, it goes into edit mode - THEN I right-click & select add link
what happens is that the item text doesnt show in the "Hyperlink text" box (but of course I dont notice this)

so I get (in edit mode)
ITEM TEXT<a href=http://url-address></a&gt;
which simply shows as:-
ITEM TEXT
and isnt a clickable link

so,
you could call this user error but ideal situation would seem to me to be that the "Hyperlink text" box would automatically show the item text (?)
unless
you want to allow item to be added to selected text in item field but that doesnt seem to work here (could be a nice option too?)

When I try to add a link to selected text I get (first in edit mode):-
I

Technology used

Hi Pierre,

I would like to know the technology used to develop IQ and any third party libraries.

I can see that you'll are using codejock.

I am a developer myself and was wondering if I could help out in the development itself. Since looking at the roadmap, it seems that there are some features that
users would like (me too), but have been mentioned as "won't fix". I was thinking maybe I could work on them.

Regards,
Sean.

InfoQube is a very interesting, capable program. Almost anything anyone might want to do w data is made available to the user however, IMO, in its current state 01/31/09 it is very time consumming to figure out how to do what one wants to do..  At least this is my experience. Added to that is that the help file is incomplete, shortcuts are added, changed, etc as development is active & ongoing -- thank you, Pierre.

For almost the entire month of January, I devoted myself to using IQ on a daily basis, i.e. doing what I do on a typical day.  As a backup I also replicating everything in UltraRecall because it's my current PIM (or whatever you want to call it).
