Date Format

Submitted by jnmwarren on 2018/03/27 16:48
Is there a way to change the format of the Date field? I see that once you choose the Date field there is a value in the Default value field. But I do not see anywhere in the documentation on how to format the date.

Also seem to be not able to find any glossary of the pre-loaded software defined fields. I would like to know what the fields are and how to use them.

Thanks,
John

HTML Pane Not Saving

Submitted by David_H on 2018/03/27 14:26
Today I typed some info into the HTML pane, moved to another item, then closed. Reopened IQ a minute later and what I had types was gone. So I retyped it and moved off the item and back to the item. Strangely, this time just a few of the works were there. Ultimately I was able to get them to stay by manually saving with Ctrl and S before leaving the item. Then when I went back it was still there.

Data

Submitted by jnmwarren on 2018/03/27 13:14
I have three grids (Tickets, Subject, SubjectDesc). The Subject and SubjectDesc grids are lists of information that I use as a lists to choose from for 2 fields in the Tickets grid. However every time I add a new item which is a number in the Tickets grid the number also gets added to Subject and SubjectDesc. Why would this occur. Also I did an import of a CSV file and all of the Items which are a number are showing up in the drop down list for the Subject & SubjectDesc. I not sure why this would occur either.

The second question I have is in regards to the Manage Fields window. There is a field to add a default value and I have added a value. However, ever time I add a new Item the default value does not get populated in the field that it should. Why would this not happen?

Thanks,
John

Markdown Syntax

Submitted by jnmwarren on 2018/03/27 10:04
I tried to create a new Markdown file and InfoQube does not allow me to. According to the documentation:

To create a new Markdown:
  • Menu > File > New > New Markdown file

Instead I get
Menu>File>New>New Blank IQBase or New IQBase (with Sample Data

Also is there a way to format my data in the HTML editor as Markdown. Or, is there an editor for using Markdown to format my notes.

Thanks,
John

dropbox sync - communications about file updates

Submitted by jimspoon on 2018/03/26 02:33
Long ago I gave up on using the dropbox sync feature.   It seemed like every time I would end up with conflicted files and lost data.  I'm not even sure why.

PC1 data folder <-> PC1 sync folder <-> cloud <-> PC2 sync folder <-> PC2 data folder

I guess that a conflict results if PC1 writes a change to the PC1 sync folder, and PC2 makes a data change before the PC1 file change goes all the way through to the PC2 data folder and is loaded into IQ on PC2.

That completion of sync process can be delayed by a backlog of files to be synced, among other things.  I guess IQ running on PC2 won't be aware of a PC1 sync file change until the changed file has arrived into the PC2 sync folder.

I am wondering whether some kind of communications channel could be set up to prevent the kind of problem I've had.  Maybe as soon as IQ o

Clipper update?

Submitted by WayneK on 2018/03/24 10:32
Is there any plan to update the clipper to work in latest version of Firefox?  I had to update to Firefox 59, 64 bit because my old 32 bit installation was becoming unusable.

I spent 45 minutes going through the universal clipper instructions but couldn't figure out how to make it work as conveniently as the clipper addon.

I want to capture a link to the current webpage in one simple step without having to manually copy/paste the URL.  Closest I came to that was getting InfoQube to automatically put the link in the HMTL pane but I want it in the URL field.

Side note:  when you check "add clipping info" the clip has a misspelled word ("defailt")

Request - Remember HTML and Prop Pane Settings on Per Grid Basis

Submitted by David_H on 2018/03/20 15:46
When I view my grids it's often like this:

  • Grid 1 I always view with HTML pane off (lots of columns, very little HTML content).
  • Grid 2 I always view with HTML pane on (fewer columns, lots of HTML content)
  • Grid 3 I always view with HTML pane and Property pane on.
And so on. This requires endlessly pinning and unpinning HTML pane etc. as I switch from grid to grid. Any way to remember the settings on a per grid basis?

Thanks Pierre.

how to assign new Y/N field values to existing items based on other field values for those items

Submitted by jimspoon on 2018/03/20 01:57
Suppose I want to create a new Y/N field, and then set this value to Y for all existing items that meet a certain filter (e.g. [URL] NOT NUL), or something more complex.  Now, assume that there are thousands of items that meet this filter.  What's the best way to accomplish this?  Could I do this by entering a row equation for the new Y/N field, then clicking the Recalculate button?

Large CSV Data Import problems

Submitted by jimspoon on 2018/03/19 11:09
Has anybody else tried to import a very large number of items into IQ from a CSV file?  My attempts have never succeeded.

I think IQ would make a great bookmark manager, and I would also like to have my boomarks integrated into my other IQ data.  So I exported my data from Linkman to a TSV file.  (Linkman a great bookmark manager, but I've had lots of trouble getting exports to work properly.)  Used Excel to convert the TSV into a CSV file.  Had to do some trickery in Excel to get a CSV file with only three columns, and eliminate a bunch of empty columns.

So then I have a CSV with only three columns for each bookmark - title, url, and date.  Created a new IQ file, and created three new fields - BookmarkTitle (text), BookmarkURL (text, hyperlink), and BookmarkDate (date).  Then I tried to import the CSV file as non-hierarchical data.  I reached the point shown in the scre
