It is possible to type multiple lines by right clicking and selecting header caption. Is it possible to display them in the column header that way?I tried word wrap but that does not do it.

Comments

I couldn't come up with anything that worked.

Hi All !

There is an issue when a column header is moved up and/or grouped, and I'll look into it
But when these features are not used, setting Header wordwrap (in grid properties) does wrap text correctly

Of course, that's the one place I didn't think to look.

Not worth starting another thread, but I do find myself trying to group columns but the group option is grayed out for some reason.  Haven't figured out why/when that occurs.

Do you select 2 or more columns prior to doing the command ?

Yes.  I can carry out the identical sequence on other nearby columns, and it works fine, but when I return to the first two, the selection is still grayed out.

Got to be something I'm missing.

Humm... "when I return to the first two..." I don't follow you. Perhaps spell out the steps you do and how this is different from what's in the doc

By "return to the first two" I just mean the two column headers I'm trying to group but can't because the option is grayed out

1) Select two columns (either 1 cell in each, or entire column each)
2) Column>header>[group columns is grayed out]

It works most of the time but sometimes it doesn't and I can't figure out why the option to group the column headers is grayed out (the columns are not already grouped).

Thanks Pierre. Like Wayne I never looked in grid settings, I am sometimes curious why things like this require a setting to enable them? I'd think it would either be possible or not possible, but I'm sure there is some technical reason :-).

Do you mean to say that multiline headers should always be enabled ? Or enabled by default with an option to disable it ?
I for one, don't care about having multiline headers, perhaps that colors my design choices...

I meant that they should be enabled by default simply by virtue of the fact that they are only going to show on multiple lines if they are compressed, and if someone doesn't want multiple lines then they will stretch the column so it shows up on one line. But I suppose there are some users who like single line truncated columns.

Considering that, I think the default should be enabled, with the option to disable. But it's a small issue. It's just funny that all this time I never knew it was possible because it was hidden and turned off by default. Than again, not knowing something is possible is a common (in a good way) thing with IQ! For instance, I just noticed the "show done box on the tree column" in grid settings that that I really like have never used for who knows what reason.

re Done checkbox
LOL...
It is also under the Grid main menu... perhaps you need to change your prescription lenses

I put a lot of effort on writing / updating the doc, so perhaps RTFM when you have some "spare" time !

Lest you think I don't I refer to the manual all the time....for instance I searched on this subject before posting the question. What I really need to do is sit down some day and just read the entire thing, because I know there is still much more for me to discover.
