Why make a field "date" as opposed to "text" ?

1) what is the advantage of having a date field for dates as opposed to a text field -
I use the format YYYY-MM-DD so it sorts correctly as text or date. To me the advantage of having a text field is that I can, say, add
"2009-04"  without giving a specific date - of course that may screw up the sort, I'm not sure
or
"2009-01-20ish"    (!)
both of which surprisingly sort okay.

2) I want to ask how to convert fields but gotta figure out to-what so I'll wait see the response to #1

Problems with links (to items)

The problem is -
if I try and add a (url) link to an item, sometimes I click in item field, it goes into edit mode - THEN I right-click & select add link
what happens is that the item text doesnt show in the "Hyperlink text" box (but of course I dont notice this)

so I get (in edit mode)
ITEM TEXT<a href=http://url-address></a&gt;
which simply shows as:-
ITEM TEXT
and isnt a clickable link

so,
you could call this user error but ideal situation would seem to me to be that the "Hyperlink text" box would automatically show the item text (?)
unless
you want to allow item to be added to selected text in item field but that doesnt seem to work here (could be a nice option too?)

When I try to add a link to selected text I get (first in edit mode):-
I

Technology used

Hi Pierre,

I would like to know the technology used to develop IQ and any third party libraries.

I can see that you'll are using codejock.

I am a developer myself and was wondering if I could help out in the development itself. Since looking at the roadmap, it seems that there are some features that
users would like (me too), but have been mentioned as "won't fix". I was thinking maybe I could work on them.

Regards,
Sean.
