Application Hangs after ECCO import and Column / Field select

Submitted by richlove on 2014/10/31 16:47

I used the IQ import wizard, i.e., leave ECCO open and select the Notebook and Rows that I want to import, then hit "import", then wait. Then select the columns that I want to be showing in the grid, then HANG, (CRASH) !!!  The only thing I can do to exit this hang is to kill the process and restart IQ.

Since at least 2010 this has happened everytime I have imported a data set or ECCO folder into IQ.   ECCO import is really dirty and buggy, and it needs to be fixed.

I will recreate and reformat by hand multi-level hierarchies from ECCO Pro to IQ beta.  It is too much work. Creating them in ECCO is so fast and better than PowerPoint, MS-Word, Excel, and other products.

How disappointing, because I hoped again that IQ could help me with a better project outliner and task management system than ECCO.  Another 4 years until IQ

Documentation images in Sample DB (portable version)

Submitted by PIMfan on 2014/10/31 14:49
I posted something in the documentation area regarding the Portable version missing images in the sample DB documentation.

Not trying to cross-post, but after a week of no responses, just thinking I should have posted it here first.  Can anyone else verify that they are also not seeing the images as noted in the above link writeup?

Import Mapping Help needed

Submitted by richlove on 2014/10/30 10:56
A Help System Button and/or Wizard is needed for CSV, Tab-delimited, spreadsheet, and all Grid Import operations.

I am trying to import a tab-delimited file.  I have not set up a "import field mapping file" yet.

If my fields to be imported are not already defined, I cannot finish the import of those fields.  I must cancel the operation and set up the fields and try again.

The "Import Step 2 : Field Mapping" dialog box needs to be able to just enter new fields to be imported, perhaps by putting them into bracks, e.g., [Hours_Est_Labor] and IQ will add this new field to the list, and allow the "Save as an import field mapping file" button to work.  This is not the case now.

Right now I have to back out, set up all missing fields in the Field Properties Grid, and then go back and select them one by one.

Hi IQ Users,

In this next release:
  • New: EmailToIQ: Send content to items.
You can now send content to a project item, a task, a specific contact, a calendar event, to meeting minutes, etc
Can send to multiple items too ! Documentation can be found here: 2. Send To InfoQube using EmailToIQ
    Two syntaxes:
    • If the email subject line contains #1234, the content will appear as a subitem of item ID 1234.
    • If the email subject line contains #Some item text, the content will appear as a subitem of item "Some item text".

Images missing from Sample DB

Just copied the latest (0.9.26Pre-Rel33b) build of the portable version and extracted it. Created a new IQBase with sample data.  In section 1.1.2.2 of the Welcome grid, I noticed that there are some references to missing images.  As I started navigating through the topics, I found more than a few instances as shown below....Note that there is a "good" image reference in between the missing ones....

Using IQ on high-DPI displays

Submitted by Pierre_Admin on 2014/10/23 14:23
I'd like to create a user manual page on using IQ on high-DPI displays, used but some new laptops and tablets and am looking for your inputs as to what works best, and what needs fixing.

A bit of history first...
For centuries (ok... decades), PC displays have had similar DPIs (dot per inch), averaging 100 or so. Windows was built on this principle. The same for Macs, with a somewhat lower DPI of 72. Icons were 16 bits by 16 bits. Larger ones, 32 x 32, etc. Depending on the actual DPI, icons and apps looked smaller or larger. This was considered "normal".

Enter high-DPI displays, mostly on laptops and now tablets / convertibles / 2 in 1's...

Multiple values in a single "cell"

Submitted by gregory on 2014/10/20 20:23
I'm sure that it's possible, but:

I cannot find out how to say that a field in a grid can have multiple values.

My need arises because I want to allow more than one tag to classify an item, e.g. students|teachers|administrators.

I guess that this must already be the case for WIKITags, but I can't see where the field property has been set for that field.

Thanks!

cursor location in grid Item field

Submitted by jimspoon on 2014/10/01 15:16
(1)  When I move the cursor to a the Item field in a grid, and press F2 to enter Edit Mode, it is often to append text to the existing item.  Therefore for me it would be better if the cursor would start off at the END of the Item Text rather than the beginning.

(2) When I have the cursor in the Item Text field in the grid, and move the cursor up or down to the previous/next item, it would be good if the cursor stayed in the same horizontal position, rather than jumping to the start of the Item Text.

(3) I tried clicking on the Item Text field in the grid - it appears to go into Edit Mode.  Then I tried clicking at the end of the text in the Item Text field.  The cursor is not activated.  I am unable to get a blinking cursor by clicking anywhere in the Item Text.  If I then press F2 to get into Edit Mode, it goes out of Edit Mode.  So I have to press F2 again to get it back in to Edit Mode.&nb
