Version 0.9.26Pre-Rel42 is now available !

Hi IQ Users,

In this release (v0.9.26PreRel42):
  • New: Omnibox can be placed on the main menu if desired.
  • New: Pop-up list now supports Filter-on-type. Either click on the header of hit Ctrl+F to activate it (See Auto-complete on SQL-derived field)
  • Fixed: Major cleanup / update of the Customize dialog content. Lots of commands were missing or in the wrong place
  • Fixed: Pressing the Omnibox keyboard shortcut could lock IQ
  • Fixed: Omnibox command list text did not always perfectly match the menu items
  • Fixed: Cannot make changes to the Omnibox in the Customize dialog (see Some UI inconsistencies in 41)
  • Change: Omnibox default keyboard shortcut has changed to Ctrl+F as it does search too. The original shortcut was also incompatible with AZERTY keyboards.

Writing in InfoQube (rich text): is this a priority?

To anyone who wonders why I persist with the use of Microsoft Word as an editor and word processor: there are many reasons. For example, as of now, there is no better way of composing and managing text which includes outlines – a feature which most InfoQube users love. LibreOffice Write does not implement outlining.

Ideally, I would compose more of my text in InfoQube itself.

Keep losing Layout

When InfoQube is started or re-started or opening grids it shows number of items, on the tab, but no items are shown. If an item has information in the html pane I can see the html information but not the item it belongs too or which item it is. I have to load the default.dock.dat layout, first, in order to show all the items and then load my saved dock, which places the html pane at the bottom. I have to do this for every grid I open even sometimes when I close some grids and then re-open later during the same session. This has been happening for a while. I am using Version 0.9.26Pre-Rel41 build 2/13/15 Beta Running in Portable mode on Windows 8.1. I have searched for information on options to see if there is a setting that controls using the layout but I cannot find any. I am attaching an image of an open grid with number of items on the tab but no items listed.

Some UI inconsistencies in 41

Hi Pierre:

Menu | Grid has an icon displayed whereas other menu items do not. This is easy for the user to show default or text only, but I thought I would mention it. Also, "Grid" is in bold which is different from the display of other menu items.

Under Customize | Toolbars. Search Box cannot be unchecked while all the others can be turned off. Finally, right clicking lists all the other toolbars EXCEPT for Search Box.

PDFs in HTML Pane

Submitted by WayneK on 2015/02/15 20:10
Hello all.  I've been out of the loop for a while.  My motherboard went bad and I had to re-install all my software.  I'm trying to get back to where I was a few weeks ago.

I installed pre-release 41, portable.  I noticed that it no longer seems possible to display PDF's in the HTML pane.  I tried dragging PDF's there and also to the grid but neither did anything.  I know it was working before because I had a discussion with Pierre about the merits of using PDF's inside InfoQube.

Am I just doing something wrong or is this something missing in the 41 release?

Thanks, Wayne

Auto-complete on SQL-derived field

Submitted by gregory on 2015/02/15 07:16
An earlier forum post, www.sqlnotes.net/drupal5/index.php, "Auto-complete wherever/whenever there's a drop-down menu", suggested that auto-completion should be as near universal as practicable.

In several instances, I have a drop-down list which is derived from SQL (which means that the contents of the list are dynamic and change as values elsewhere in the IQbase change). In the instance illustrated, the drop-down list is very long and it takes far too long to select an item from it. I am continuing to investigate ways of restricting the length of that list. But my task would be considerably easier if I could "home-in" on the field value by typing the first few characters.

Keying issues – possibly connected with the use of AZERTY keyboard?

Submitted by gregory on 2015/02/15 01:15
There are a number of issues in InfoQube which may be associated with the use of AZERTY keyboards (used in most French-speaking countries, and to be contrasted with QWERTY keyboards, as used in the US and in the UK). I am sorry that I have not previously documented these (and I cannot currently remember them all, sorry!). Among these issues are the following:
  1. When entering text, holding down the shift key in order to type a sequence of upper-case letters, the first character typed is capitalised but the second and subsequent are in the lower-case equivalent of the key. Thus if wishing to type AERO, what is displayed and stored is Aero. The workaround is to release the shift key on the second character typed, and then to hold it down again. The second and subsequent characters are then in upper-case.
I may need to add to this list.

Mark
