switching between infoqube and other programs - retain current cursor position?

Submitted by jimspoon on 2015/08/23 18:07
I often use alt-tab to swtich from infoqube to other programs to get some information from that other program.  Then I switch back to Infoqube to enter that info into an infoqube item.  The problem is - when I switch back to infoqube, the cell I was editing is no longer active.  I have to reactivate the cell for editing and reposition the cursor.   Is it possible to make it so that when I switch back to Infoqube, the cell is still active and the cursor is still in the same place?

I did discover that I do get this desired behavior if I do my Infoqube editing using the Shift+F2 popup editor.  Unfortunately, in the Pop Up editor I do not have a "Split Item" function available to me, and that is something I rely on heavily.

Auto-search mode problem

Submitted by jimspoon on 2015/08/18 21:48
I ran into a problem while adding and editing items in a Grid.  The whole problem was that I was in Auto-Search mode for that particular grid and didn't realiize it.

If I pressed Enter to start a new item, a new sibling item would be created, but then the cursor would immediately jump to an item higher in the grid and the character "(" (open parenthesis) would be highlighted - as if I had been using the Auto-Search function to search for the character "(".

If I pressed Space to move cursor to the end of the item for editing, nothing would happen.

F2 did open the item for editing.

In this manner I actually did add and edit many items, even with Auto-Search turned on.  I just thought I had encountered some bug, rather than the normal operation of Auto-Search.

I am just wondering whether something could be d

Grid sort operation

I used the menu item Column > Sort Items Ascending, thinking that only TLIs would be sorted.  I was surprised when displayed SLIs were also sorted.  SLIs that were hidden (i.e. collapsed) were not sorted.

Is this the intended effect of Column > Sort Items Ascending?  I can adjust my behavior accordingly.

[FIXED] When items are just moved under another parent, previous parents' link are kept (prerel54)

As mentioned elsewhere:

- open 2 grids, side by side
- drag/drop a subitem from 1st grid to the other grid, under another item (parent)
- a new parent link is created BUT the old link is preserved even if ctrl isn't pressed. (I.e. : moving the item creates 2 parents links, instead of just changing the link.)

This could obviously result in many unwanted links.

Item with multiple parents: thanks and two suggestions

I have been pleasantly surprised and delighted by a discovery in InfoQube. I have been agonising for a very long time about the best way in which to show many-to-many relationships in this product. Thus at the present time I need to be able to take items in my bibliography and associate them with multiple tags. In order to record this data, I have a two-pane arrangement in InfoQube in which in the bottom pane I have the bibliography grid and in the upper pane I have the tag grid. In order to associate a bibliography entry with a tag, I hover the mouse over the top left-hand corner of the item number # and control left click and drag the item up into the upper pane and underneath the keyword with which I wish to associate the bibliography entry. It is displayed there together with any other items which I have already copied.

[FIXED] In HTML pane why does Word icon disappear after I use it??

Submitted by David_H on 2015/08/15 17:37
For the first time today I decided to try the "edit in Microsoft Word" option in the HTML pane.  But once I edit anything in Word, then for that item the Word icon (right next to edit with blocknote) disappears.  Why?  How do I open it again in Word?  Is this a bug?

The Word icon still shows up for all items I have not edited in Word.

I was really excited to use this feature as I'm never comfortable with the formatting options in the HTML pane, I'm just too programmed to use standard formatting options.

Thanks

dropbox sync error reconciliation?

Submitted by jimspoon on 2015/08/13 15:56
I must have started editing one of my Dropbox IQ database replicas before changes from another replica were detected and the updated file synced over - because I ended up with a "conflicted copy" in my Dropbox infoqube sync folder.  Later on, I noticed that the "conflicted copy" had disappeared from the sync folder.

Would it be possible to implement some sort of mechanism to detect precisely the differences between conflicting copies of the database, present them to the user, and allow the user to select between them (or keep both versions).  Could IQ be made to detect such differences by comparing item fields such as item ID numbers, create/modify dates, etc?  This

IQ feels good!

For years I had resisted abandoning Ecco and moving my daily notetaking to Infoqube.  I just thought I couldn't work as comfortably or as smoothly in IQ as I could in Ecco.  A couple of weeks ago I hit the Ecco "low memory" message, "application restart required" again and I decided, let's give this a try.  I moved my 2015 notes (because of file size limits I had to start a new Ecco file every year) over to IQ.  There were a few rough spots where I thought I'd throw in the towel and go back to Ecco.  But I stuck with it and I have to say, I am now feeling very comfortable working in IQ.  You can't really learn how to work with a program like IQ until you make it your constant work environment.  I am starting to love this program.  Funny I feel that way about computers and programs, ha ha!  And I know I have not even scratched the surface of what this program can do.  Eventually I

User code missing

Submitted by gregory on 2015/08/10 09:00
So, some while ago, I decided to be clever and keep most of my VBScript code as user code. This is shared between IQbases which meant that I didn't need to keep copying VBScript code whenever I started a new IQbase.

Unfortunately, at some recent point, I have lost a significant amount of my user code. Furthermore, as far as I can tell, when I seek to go back to a much older IQbase which I believe should contain that old code, I still do not see the missing code.

Three questions:
1. Where is user code stored; is it in the most recently opened IQbase? In some deep recess of the InfoQube product itself? In the registry???
2. How can I go back to some earlier version of that user code?
3. For the future, how can I safely back up the user code? Or what other strategy do you recommend?
