Customizing Menus and Toolbars

All menus and toolbars can be customized. This can be done in a number of ways.
(the menu system is a clone of what was used for Microsoft Office 2003, so the same tips and tricks apply)

There are two distinct menu / toolbar sets. One for the main InfoQube window, one for the Document pane. Commands cannot be move from one to the other.

1. Moving Menus and Toolbar

All menus and toolbar can be moved and un-docked (i.e. floating).
To move a menu / toolbar, move the mouse to the left side of it, the cursor will change ( 4 arrows ). Click and drag to move it or undock it. Once undocked, you can dock it to any of the 4 sides of the IQ main window

HTML briefly opens and closes -- need to press F12 3x (or more) to stabilize it.

Often (but not all the  time), when I press F12 and HTML pane is in autohide, it often briefly flashes and hides again. I have to press F12 at least 2 more times to have it stay in position.

I think it happens mostly when coming back from another app, with alt-tab. E.g. : Alt-Tab to something else, select an item in IQ and press F12.

(Maybe will this somewhat address the perceived HTML pane sluggishness evoked in First post - comments and questions.)

First post - comments and questions

Hi

I'm new to this forum but not to IQ, which I have been keeping an eye on for many years now. After spending time with the latest beta I'm almost hooked but not quite. As I'm just about to embark on a large scale overhaul of my data management system I've listed my main concerns here in the hope that more experienced users can nudge me over the line.

1) Getting data in and out. Seems very lacking in both directions. I've had poor results importing CSV files in spite of spending considerable time and effort in producing clean files that import fine into other database apps. In addition, nothing I've tried has successfully gotten text into the HTML pane. No idea why that might be. In the other direction, export to Excel is clearly inadequate as has been mentioned elsewhere in these forums. I'm assuming that an upgrade of import/export facilities is planned but I would like to know just what we might expect in this area.

Grid's WYSIWYG edit mode doesn't seem to be fully compatible with "normal" edit mode (visible HMTL tags)

Submitted by Armando on 2016/07/12 18:41
WYSIWYG edit mode seems to breaks some formatting, inserts unknown tags (e.g. </FONT>), changes HTML tag's case (<b> becomes <B> for example ).

- Sample file, welcome grid

- Focus on  the "Different font face and font sizes are also possible" item (iditem = 1630)

- Press shift + F2 or F2. Get out of edit mode :  formatting is gone.

Another example :

- Now pick IDitem 1631

- Press shift+F2 , then press OK to just close the edit box.

- You'll get some extra HTML tags added  and the format is broken. This will appear (showing in edit mode to show the added tags more easily):

Items with truncated content in find/quick search grid : impossible/difficult to ctrl+click for multiple selection.

Quick Search/find grid.

When items content is to big to fit a cell :

Ctrl+click/select  :  the whole grid flashes, goes up and down and makes it difficult/impossible to select anything.

78b's performance

Submitted by Armando on 2016/07/11 22:45
 First "post-holiday" problem report ! :)

I had to revert to 77 as 78b performance is slower overall (and, of course, more CPU intensive) and too slow for me to work on it all day long.
Editing fields in manage fields dialog, grid refresh,  equations, changing format, erasing items, moving/drag-drop items from one grid to another (this used to be much much more speedy) etc.
It's pretty sluggish here. I'd say about 2 times slower, average.

I won't go into a more detailed explanation of what's fast or not as it's pretty much the same issues I'm experiencing on a regular basis. (77 isn't that speedy either, but it's faster. 76 was definitely the fastest (equations and grid updates were much faster).

IQ and Evernote's recent changes (and future)...

Hey IQ users!

Being on holidays doesn't mean being disconnected from information management news...

What do IQ users think about recent Evernote announcement regarding free account changes and price hikes to paid accounts ?

Are there IQ users still using this service ?

If IQ is to sync with such a multi platform tool, which one would be best ? OneNote, Evernote, Google Keep ?

An overview of IQ's main components: Items, Fields, Grids, Forms, Panes

1. Items

In InfoQube, the information is centered on items. The term item is generic and can refer to:
  • a person
  • a thing
  • a task
  • a thought
  • a file
  • notes
  • or just about anything...
This means that InfoQube does not try to decide for you how you enter your information. You are in control.

This is not the same behavior as in other applications! For example: if you are in Outlook, you can create a contact using the contact form... a task using the task form, etc.
In Outlook a contact item is different than a task item... but this is not the case in InfoQube .

All items are equal - regardless of where created. An item is an item.
