Auto Assignment Rule Question/Request

Submitted by David_H on 2017/01/19 14:35
I have an auto assignment rule so that whenever an item is created, it assigns an initial default value ("New") for a pop-up field I used across all items in the database.  Then as I work on those items further I adjust the pop-up value accordingly - "in progress", "closed" etc.

The problem I am encountering is if I later edit the item text, it keeps changing the pop-up value back to the initial default value of "new" per the auto assignment rule.  Is there a way to stop this from happening?  I am guessing there is :).

if not can this be adjusted in a future release?  I don't find this desirable behavior - it seems to me the auto assignment rule should apply only when an item is created.  Having it trigger every time an item is edited defeats the value (pun intended), I don't want items continually being returned to the initial value every time i edit them.

Item with Name of Skype Opens Skype - WTF :-)?

Submitted by David_H on 2017/01/19 13:31
I had a skype conference today so I had entered a corresponding item with the title of "Skype".  Afterwards I double clicked on it to edit it and noticed that doing so caused Skype to maximize.  Wondering how this could be possible since I did not make the Item a program link of any type, I double clicked on other items, which (as expected), did nothing.  So then I created another item with the single word "Skype".  Sure enough, double clicking on it also maximized skype.

As cool as this is, any idea how/why that is happening?

Thanks

Shift+F2 edit box no longer active after switching away from IQ and back to IQ

Submitted by jimspoon on 2017/01/17 22:30
In the past I have been able to enter text in a Shift+F2 edit box, switch to another program using Alt+Tab, then switch back to the active edit box in IQ.

Now when I attempt to do this in 91b, the Shift+F2 edit box is gone, the item is no longer active for editing, and I lose any of the changes I entered into the Shift+F2 edit box before I switched away.

I tried different files and different computers, same results.

However when I tried out 0.9.85a, I was able to switch from the active Shift+F2 edit box to another program and back, and the Shift+F2 edit box would still be active, and no content was lost.

"Join Items" fails when "Delete Merged Items" box is checked

I selected several items and tried to join them using Ctrl+Shift+J.  (using 0.9.91b portable).

When I clicked OK, the top item disappeared (I lost the content in that item).  An error message appeared in the bottom right corner of IQ:

I experimented with different iqbases (sample file, empty file) and had the same problem.  I experimented with different versions of IQ, going back to 85a - same result.

Finally I discovered that the problem did not occur when I unchecked the "Delete Merged Item" box in the Join Items dialog.

EmailtoIQ Subject-line & hashtags #tag

I made significant improvements to EmailToIQ in v91:

  1.     New: EmailToIQ settings dialog: Checkbox to set the Username equal to the Email Address (often the case for web mail servers)
  2.     New: EmailToIQ: Use ## to mark the start of the fields
  3.     New: EmailToIQ: # flags that could not be processed (non-existent fields for example) are added to the item text so users are aware of the problem
  4.     Change: EmailToIQ: Fields in Tools > Options > 2.3.3 are always set. Before these were set only if no # flags was found in the email subject line [/quote]

 hi Pierre,

Grid as Parent Item Setting

Submitted by David_H on 2017/01/16 23:53
If you create a dedicated grid for a project, when parent items from that dedicated grid appear in other grids with display mode set to outline, the items will do so without the context of a parent, since the "parent" is a dedicated grid.  So in the other grids it might not be clear what the items relate to.

One way to get around this when using a dedicated grid for a project is to still use a single parent item and if you don't want to see it just hoist all the children in the dedicated project grid.  Now the children will still show up with their parent item in other grids.

Anyhow, with the new "home" property for an item, I wondered if it would be feasible to add a grid setting that says "make this grid the parent item for all TLI home items that display in other grids".  So that when that grids home items show up in other grids that have display mode set to outline, that grid wou

Insert Item at Top?

Submitted by David_H on 2017/01/10 16:33
I have some grids sorted by ItemCreated with the most recent items at the top.  As I add/work on new items I'd like them to appear at the top.  But AFAIK an item always has to be added after an existing item.  Of course then I can always hit refresh to get it to move to the top, but I wondered if there is a method I'm missing that allows the user to just insert a new item at the top?

Same Grid Open Twice Simulatenously w/ Different Views

Submitted by David_H on 2017/01/09 18:35
I am often working in a grid that I'd like to have open simultaneously with different views.  In one tab/pane I might have it hoisted as I am working on a particular item.  As I'm doing that I'd like to be able to have that same grid open in another pane where I am viewing it in a completely different way without any hoisting, perhaps with different sorting etc.

Thanks

Item Home

Items in InfoQube are like individuals, you and me. They have characteristics (field-values), parents and children (sub-items).

Until now however, items didn’t really have a “Home”.
Setting an item as a Favorite did set the ItemHomeGrid which was later on used when showing the item, but that was good for only a small number of items. Favorites being shown in a drop-down menu, it is a good idea to limit its use somewhat.

Items now have a real “Home”:

  • Homes are automatically assigned, on item creation
  • Default Home is the view where the item was created
  • The Home can be changed at anytime

Currently, the Homes can be:

  • Any Grid
  • The IQ Calendar
  • The IQ Surface
  • From EmailToIQ

1. Viewing Item Home

The item Home can be viewed in the Properties pane and in grids.
