Copy special missing text

Submitted by WayneK on 2020/04/16 17:47
I believe Pierre mentioned that there are known issues with copy-special>paste items and subitems.  If that is the case, and it is already on the list to be addressed, then that is fine and I'll just wait for a future fix.

 I've attached an example:

1) Select item with multiple subitems
2) Copy special>#6 (items and subitems)
3) Move to another grid>paste
4) New item is missing multiple lines of text from the original

Refreshing the grid and closiing/re-opening the file failed to recover the missing text.

I wanted to bring this up because of the possibility that it is related to my issue with text sometimes disappearing.

All the missing lines were bulleted lines inside a multi-line cell.  Does this type of formatting cause problems?

Why is InfoQube accessing external drive?

Submitted by WayneK on 2020/04/16 11:11
Why does InfoQube (or Windows) access external drives when it's not necessary?

I have a couple of extra hard drives mounted externally in a drive dock.  There are no active InfoQube files on these drives nor do I have any backups set to go to these drives.

Yet when I carry out various InfoQube actions, like turning off a hoist, one of these drives is being activated and it grinds and grinds like it's looking for something.  The InfoQube action is delayed while this is happening, so the whole thing slows down my InfoQube work.  Each time I have to wait while the drive comes out of resting mode and searches for some nonexistent something.

I do have some InfoQube files on the drives which I've manually moved there for extra backups.  But there is no way for InfoQube to "know" that the files are there and I never use them in InfoQube.

Any idea what

IQ not updating database from more recent sndb file in OneDrive sync folder

Submitted by jimspoon on 2020/04/15 20:40
My desktop IQ (v115) is not updating my database from the more recent file in my sync folder.  The correct folder (C:\Users\jimsp\OneDrive\infoqube\sync) is specified in Tools > Options > Data Storage > Sync Folder.  The file with the most recent changes is in the folder, the IQ is just not updating from it.  Is there a way to force an update from the sync file?  From reading the manual, Ctrl+S seems to force an update to the sync file, not from it?  I wouldn't want to do Ctrl+S on my desktop and overwrite the sync file that contains the latest changes.

In case it helps, the two changes I made were to add to items to my Notes1 grid by checking the Notes1 checkmark field.  When I look at the two items on my Desktop, the Notes1 field is not shown in the Values section of the Properties pane, but "Notes1" is shown as the value for Home in the Basic section.  The Last Edit date (File > Properties

Manage Grids show #items/Nb

Submitted by KeithB on 2020/04/14 07:50
I would like the Manage Grids dialog to show the quantity, similar to the Field Editor "# items" and the Item Editor "Nb" column.
My use case is using the Manage Grids dialog as an ad-hoc grid navigator: I sort by name, shift select and pick all the grids starting with A, right click>view grid, then navigate the open grid tabs.
It would be nice to know if I have a large number of items in a certain grid before doing this.

Failed backups

Submitted by WayneK on 2020/04/13 11:11
My computer crashed overnight and I lost a sizable chunk of work I did in InfoQube just before bedtime.  Tried to recover it from backups but they are missing.  Don't understand why.

I had three InfoQube files open when I went to bed.  All have identical backup settings (every 10 minutes, delete after 1 day).

Two of the files continued to back up every ten minutes all night until about 6:00 am (that must have been when the computer crashed).  The third file stopped backing up before I went to bed and did not resume until I rebooted the computer this morning.

Naturally, the one file that did not back up is the one that had active work that needed saving.

Any ideas on why back ups for this one file failed?  I used the file right up to bedtime and it was fine.  Only thing I can think of is that this one particular file crashed after I put the compu

Multiline column header option

Submitted by WayneK on 2020/04/11 21:07
Minor suggestion:

Add an option to set the default for "Multiline column headers".  I haven't been able to find a control for this.

Every time I create a grid, it has this option checked, which I don't want.  Would be nice to be able to permanently turn it off and not have to change the setting every time a grid is created.

Of course, if there is a setting for this already, let me know.

Talk me out of investing a lot of time and effort to try Org-Mode!

Submitted by LeftEccoForIQ on 2020/04/10 18:17
It's not that I'm not very happy with InfoQube and how it's progressing. I just got very intrigued with the Android Orgzly app, a 'blood relative' of Org-Mode. I also sometimes think that InfoQube is sort of overkill for 90% of the stuff I do with it, which might be done in a more snappy fashion with Org-Mode...

Are there any Org-Mode-to-IQ-converts here?

Thanks!

Import multiple RTF files?

Submitted by lbw2112 on 2020/04/10 16:33
 HI,
I think I may have asked this before a long time ago but I couldn't find it when searching.

Is there an easy way to get information into IQ from other information managers along with images, not separate but images in the document?  The only things I need are for IQ to import the file name as the "Item" name and import the rich text and images into the "Doc" "HTML" pane.  I don't need anything else.

I've had some luck that from one of the IM's I can export an HTML file with embedded images.  The only thing wrong with that is it's in one giant file, not individual so it only imports into IQ as one big item.

I'm sure I'm missing something.  It'd be great to be able to import and export that way.

Thanks,
Larry
